夏天来了,电影方面有没有什么让人期待的呢?有精彩刺激的《钢铁侠》,《夺宝奇兵》,也有滑稽可爱的梦工厂新作《功夫熊猫》,还不来一睹为快？

Keisha Lamothe: The 2008 blockbuster season has just arrived. So far, the spring season was lack laster, so we have nowhere to go, but up from here. Here to talk about what’s in store for the summer is the Box office screw himself, Gitesh Pandya. Thanks for joining us, Gitesh. How are you? So, what happened in the spring?

Gitesh Pandya: Hollywood failed at providing the kinds of movies that people want to pay money to see. As it's really as simple as that the content wasn’t there as the content of prevenient business and if you look at the 2008 VS 2007, we didn’t have the big surprises like “300” and “Wild Hogs” from a year ago.

K: So, let’s talk about the first release that we have coming out “Iron Man”, how do you think that is going to do?

G: Well, Iron man is a great film to start off the summer movie season, but blockbuster here is having a huge, huge opening weekend, Robert Downey does a good job here. You got great reviews, you got a budget of depending on who you believe, 140-180 million dollars, so a lot of product cost to make that, but it should have a blockbuster opening weekend and the rest might be pretty good too as a summer moves on because it’s a well like film and it’s really up to the fans to decide whether they coming to or come back a second time or not. I think, you know, the repeat business might get hurt a little bit, because the movie doesn’t have the actions as you would like, but otherwise, it’s a fantastic way to start off a great summer season.

K: Is this going to be as big as Spiderman and Superman?

G: It won’t as a big as Spiderman, that film is, of course, a much bigger property, the character is world known. Iron man is not as well-known, certainly, has a more of male skew and less known with female audiences with a little bit tougher with women, I think, than with man. But it’s still the only movie out there, the only game in the town.

K: speaking of friends tris again, we have “The chronicles of Narnia” coming out, is this compared to “Lord of the Rings”, is this going to be as big as the “Lord of the Rings”?

G: It’ll almost be as big, I mean the first “The chronicles of Narnia” film came out in 2005 that closes a little under “300m” domestically and it was amazing overseas as well, so this one has a build of audience and so “Prince Caspian”, it covers 2 weeks’ experience before after the “Iron Man” open, so not too much competition, it’s gonna have a fantastic opening weekend. The second week is the /// weekend when Indiana Jones’ opening, so a bit competition there, but there should be enough rooms in the market place for both to survive. I think that this has a chance of definitely reaching the same level of the first “The chronicles of Narnia”, maybe even surpass it.

K: Just now, you mentioned Indiana Jones and I know that last summer it was full of sequels

Right.

So this summer we also have Indiana Jones and Batman, but let’s talk about Indiana Jones first. How do you think that gonna to…?

G: Indiana Jones and the kingdom of the crystal skull, it looks like it’s the most fantastic film in the summer lifting its eyes on the favor to win the box of the crown for the summer movie season, possibly even for the year. And so much anticipation behind this film: the French Eyes has gone for about 19 years, and so it’s a(去掉) great in the sense of audiences anticipation to building up but also it is risky. Do younger kids wanna go to see it? A lot of younger teenagers who drive the sales the box office, they won’t even ally back them when the last Indiana Jones movie came out, they only know the French Eyes from DVD and from cable so that’s about it, but they’ve done a good job in making relevant with(去掉)young audiences.

K: Now let’s talk about Batman, that’s also been around for so many years and how is that they gonna do in this summer?

G: Well, the batman movie franchise started in 1989 which was the same time the final of last Indiana Jones movie came out, so it’s sort of revisiting the 1989 all over again and this one is called the “Dark Knight”, it’s the first Bat man film without batman in the actual title, however, it’s looking to be another big blockbuster opens in the middle of July and you know the first one with christian belt which was batman begins from 3 years ago was very well like by the credits of fans alike and I think a lot of that good will will pass over into this new one. New fans are coming around and also because of Heath Ledger’s death, there is a lot of curiosity factor in there. I think maybe not //fans, they wanna see Heath Ledger’s final performance and of course even before his death, we saw his some of the /// depends on joker which was just brilliant and just creepy. I think a lot of interesting things there and I’m expecting very, very strong sales for the “Dark Knight” in July.

K: Well, It’ll be so exciting to see how Indiana Jones and Batman will do. I know when I was younger my Dad took me to see both of these movies at the theater and that’s basically what the summer’s about, family friendly movies, how will the family-family movies coming out this summer like Kung-fu Panda and Wall.E? How will they do in this summer?

G: Well, I think you’ve got two really good stands out coming out, of course, Kungfu Panda comes out at first at the beginning of June and that’s Dreamwork’s and you got Wall.E which from a picture of Disney. These are the high class brand from the computer animation. This is coco and pepsi in the cartoon world and so they really can't miss the box office.
