Text 1

W: Dinner here is really good. We two have so much to eat.

M: Yeah. I think $130 per person isn't too bad.

Text 2

M: I'm fond of playing football, basketball and table tennis.

W: As for me, swimming is my favourite sport.

Text 3

M: I hurt my neck in PE class, and it really hurts.

W: Oh, no. Maybe you should leave school early to see a doctor.

M: Yes, you are right. But I need to go home to get some money before seeing my doctor.

Text 4

M: I'm sorry, madam. You see, I didn't see the sign. Please, have mercy on me. Will you please not give me a ticket?

W: I'm sorry, sir. I'm afraid I have to.

Text 5

W: I was so lucky to get a ticket to the concert last night. It was great fun. I went with my father.

M: What did you do after the concert?

W: I went straight home because I had to finish my homework. OK, Tim, I have to go. See you in class tomorrow.

M: Bye.

Text 6

W: I really shouldn't have worn high heels today.

M: No kidding. Who knew we'd all be on a walking tour of the city before the meeting?

W: Maybe they think it's the first time we've come to the city, so they arranged it. I remember seeing a shoe store just around the corner from here. Do you think we have enough time to stop by? I honestly won't be able to walk back unless I get some relief for my feet.

M: It should be fine. We can get you some shoes and then eat a quick lunch at the fast food restaurant. We're almost back at the meeting center anyway.

W: OK.

Text 7

M: How did you do on the exam, Nancy?

W: I passed, but I didn't do so well. The essay question was the worst part for me. How about you?

M: I did all right on everything except for the essay question, too. I wasn't really prepared to write about Arthur Miller's plays. We study his plays for only a few days. I didn't think it would be on the test.

W: Me, neither. I thought Mr. Green would ask us something about Mark Twain's novels or maybe Walt Whitman's poems.

M: Me too. I studied most of the material on these two writers.

W: I believe we could get a better grade if we had spent some time on Arthur Miller's plays.

M: Maybe.

Text 8

W: Well, I really enjoyed that film. And you?

M: Yeah, it was worth seeing, and you can thank me for getting online so quickly to book before it sold out.

W: I know, I know. I'm very grateful! Anyway, Jessie Young was amazing as the main actress. She gave a really great performance.

M: So did James Green as her husband. The story was a bit difficult to follow though. Did you understand all the scenes in the garden?

W: It wasn't that hard. I realized what was happening all the way through. But I wasn't so fond of the sound effects. I think some of them were too loud.

M: Well, I think they were perfect to create such a scary atmosphere. And the music was just right. Anyway, let's go and get something to eat. I'm starving!

W: All right. But it's your turn to pay!

Text 9

M: Good afternoon, Penny. What's the problem?

W: Well, I don't feel very well, doctor. After three days of the toothache and sore throat, I'm troubled by a terrible earache now.

M: I can give you a new medicine called Nopain, which is very useful. You can get it at any medicine shop.

W: Nopain?

M: Yes. N-O-P-A-I-N. And you have to take the medicine after breakfast and supper. You don't need to take it after lunch. And remember to take it always after meals. That's very important.

W: And how long do I have to take it?

M: You have to finish this bottle, so that's five days. Come back and see me then.

W: This Saturday?

M: No, not Saturday, Sunday.

W: What time can I see you, doctor?

M: You have to make an appointment with the nurse at the reception outside.

W: Thank you very much.

Text 10

W: Hi, students! This is Ashley Jacobs, your student government president. I have some important information for everyone about activities on campus this year. I promise that there will be something fun for everyone to do. Do you like sports? I know everyone is a fan of our football team. And now there are two new teams at school this year. We have added a baseball team and a swim team. Or do you enjoy creative activities? The student government created an art club and a music club for people with artistic abilities. Both of these groups have events all year long. The art club hosts painting nights and trips to the local museum, and the music club enjoys concerts at the concert hall. And don't forget about the school newspaper for all the writers out there! We hand out the paper every week for free on campus. Read it to keep up with all of the school news and activities that I announced. I strongly recommend that you join a student group. It is an easy way to make good friends and have fun. Please consider joining one of these groups today. Good grades shouldn't be your only aim.
