Text 1

W: Your brother completed studies in 2014. What about you?

M: I finished school two years later.

Text 2

M: Have you finished reading the story?

W: Yes. I don't think it was as interesting as the film. The writer's words made me feel extremely bored.

Text 3

W: Can't I serve you more food?

M: Oh, Mrs. Black, your cooking is amazing. I definitely could eat more, but if I had one more steak I would have to run at least 3 miles to burn the extra calories.

Text 4

M: Lucy, there's a party tonight. Who else can we invite?

W: Well, we could ask Mary and Tom.

M: But Tom is not free. He's busy with his project.

Text 5

W: Good morning. Dr. Zane's office.

M: This is Mr. Hill. I have a ten o'clock appointment, but I'm running a little late. Do you have any openings this afternoon?

W: Sorry we don't. Can you come tomorrow morning?

M: OK. See you then.

Text 6

W: We're here! Ah, the Grand Canyon of Arizona.

M: I can't believe it took us three hours to drive here. I thought it would only take two.

W: I've waited for five years to see this wonderful place.

M: Why did you wait for five years? You could have come here at any time.

W: I was always busy running my company. Besides, that was because you were away in the army for five years. I told you we would come here together.

M: Yes, I remember now. I'm so glad to finish my time in the army.

Text 7

W: Good morning. The Writing School. Can I help you?

M: Oh, hi! I'm ringing about the online writing courses you advertise on the Internet.

W: OK. What are you interested in doing?

M: Well, I don't want to publish anything. I just want to raise the standard of my own writing.

W: Yes, it depends on whether you want to, you know, write creatively or for fun. We also have fiction writing that includes writing children's stories.

M: Well, I am working in an advertising agency. I'd like to write better so that I can get a pay rise.

W: OK, so we can send you our brochure for business writing and if you think it is right for you, you can sign up.

Text 8

M: Do you want to go with me to get some pizza, Sophie?

W: No, Black. I'm waiting for a package to be delivered.

M: This is why I hate shopping online. It would be faster to just get what you plan to buy from the store. Now you have to sit here all day. Isn't Mom home?

W: No, Mom went to work.

M: Just download an app to keep track of your package. You can just come back when you get a delivery notice.

W: No, thanks. Even if they leave the package for a short time, someone could steal it.

M: You just don't want to be seen with your little brother!

W: It's not that. I really did plan to stay home and wait for this package. Why don't we just have pizza delivered?

M: Great. More waiting.

Text 9

M: Excuse me. Do you work in the computer room?

W: Yes, I do. Can I help you?

M: Well, I'm a freshman and I know that I'll need to use the computer room for my work. So, I thought I'd get down here and see what I have to do.

W: OK. There are four computer labs open to undergraduates. The names are Wimborne, Court, Franklin and Salisbury. Wimborne and Court are in this building, the Johnson building. Franklin is in the Computer Science building and Salisbury is in the library. There're also three more computer labs that can only be used by the staff.

M: So I can use them whenever I like?

W: No. In each of the labs there is a reservation book and you can reserve your time on a computer for two hours daily. You can't go on it straightaway.

M: Thank you. By the way, I've got to get a username and password. How do I go about that then?

W: Well, what I'll do is introduce you to my colleague, Jane, as she's in charge of all that. OK, please this way.

Text 10

M: And now for our main headlines today. First of all, the report that the government plans to develop the areas around the village of Tartlesbury was published this morning. A new motorway will pass along the north side of the village. It will cross the River Teeme from the well-known beauty spot, Streeve Beach, to the north-east of the village. The motorway will cut the village off from the Streeve Beach.

But that is not the end of it. There are also plans to build a thousand houses on farmland in the west of the village. And on top of that is the plan to build a high-tech park for new technology companies. It will be built in the south of the village, where the old steel factory used to be. A large supermarket is also planned next to the park.

And, as has been expected, the plans have created quite a lot of interest. Not all people are for them. Mr. Khan, a local shopkeeper, said, "Most of us in the village welcome the jobs that the new technology park will bring, but we feel more worried that the large increase in housing and the planned motorway will destroy the character of the area."
