Text 1

W: We'll be spending two more days in Sydney than we did last time.

M: So, that'll be at least a week then.

W: Eight days, actually.

Text 2

M: Mrs. Martinez, here's the quarterly sales report.

W: Okay, I'll read it later. After that, I'll discuss the sales target of the next quarter with you.

M: All right. By the way, there is an interview with you in the late afternoon.

Text 3

W: I wanted to print out my report but the printer ran out of ink. I had only just filled it before using.

M: Some printers are like that. You can order a new one online.

W: Actually, the one I have at home isn't bad.

Text 4

W: I don't believe a word you are saying. Stop trying to be nice, and just tell me the truth.

M: I'm being honest with you! Why do you always think I'm lying?

W: Because you always touch your nose when you lie!

Text 5

W: Pardon me, what is the price of this keyboard? Is it on sale?

M: It is usually fifty dollars, but it is twenty percent off until the 15th of this month.

Text 6

M: Mary, this is Mike. Listen, Jerry and I want to go to the movies tonight. Jerry's brother will give us a lift to the cinema. Would you like to join us?

W: Well, it sounds fun, but actually I've really got a lot of homework to do.

M: Come on, Mary. It will be fun!

W: I really can't. I've got a math test on Monday and I have to hand a chemistry report in on Tuesday. And I'm really getting nervous about that. Thanks for asking. Hope you will have a good time.

Text 7

M: I hear you play in a band. Is that true?

W: Yes, I do.

M: What instrument do you play?

W: I play the guitar.

M: Oh, how exciting!

W: Yes, it's fun, but I think we might break up soon.

M: I'm sorry to hear that. Aren't you getting along well?

W: Not exactly. Our keyboard player is planning on moving to New York. Also, we got a letter from another band with the same name.

M: A letter?

W: Yes. They actually signed with Sony Music, and they're demanding that we change our name. The problem is that we can't agree on a new name.

M: It just happens that I play the piano myself. We should get together sometime.

W: Yeah, that would be fun.

Text 8

W: Mark, could you introduce a poetry book for children to me?

M: Certainly. You can get Daniel Finds a Poem by Micha Archer. The book has simple words. Every time I read it aloud, it never fails to get a round of applause from my elementary students.

W: What is it about?

M: It mainly contains poems about nature. Through this book, parents can take their little ones on a walk through nature with Daniel and some animals. Its clear and lively pictures left a lasting impression on me. So it is well worth reading.

W: So how can I get a copy of the book?

M: It is difficult to get one in the library. I bought it from a secondhand bookstore, but if you have no time, you can just get one on Bookshop.org.

W: Thanks. I'll be sure to visit the site.

Text 9

W: Hi, John. Haven't seen you for ages!

M: Hi, Susan. Fancy meeting you here on the train.

W: How is your college life?

M: What can I say? I've survived.

W: What happened?

M: Well, early last March, I started doing a part-time job in a law firm. A few weeks before, I had started writing my term paper. I thought I could finish it by August.

W: That was a pretty good idea, trying to have some work experience.

M: For the first three weeks, you know, I tried. I got up early and worked for an hour on my paper before going to work. But work was so fun. I met tons of new people, and soon I couldn't find even a minute for my paper. So I had to quit my part-time job, and finally finished my paper in October.

W: Well, it's never too late to mend. It's kind of hard to find a balance between what you have to do and what you want to do.

M: Yeah, it's really important for me to balance study and work. And I think I should learn to exercise some self-control.

Text 10

W: Get ready to say goodbye to today's warm, sunny weather. Just when millions of people are getting ready for the holiday, three storms are expected to make trouble for holiday travelers. None of the storms will be strong, but the cold air will make traveling difficult. The first storm will arrive on this weekend. It will bring rain to the northeast, but warm air in New York City might cause some fog and low clouds. It will be hard for drivers to see the road clearly. Later in the next week, snow will come to the north states, with three inches in Saint Paul, Minnesota. And a few days later, just when the New Year's celebrations are scheduled, Boston will be covered with freezing rain. The ice will cause problems for anyone trying to travel on foot, with one inch of ice expected on city roads. New Year's will be cold in Chicago, too, with a strong wind blowing water from the river onto anyone hoping to celebrate by the water.
