when 当什么时 可表瞬间 事情可同时 或者先后发生 例子 it was snowing when we got to the airport 我们到机场时 天在下雪(先后顺序) while 用于相伴发生的 同时进行 例子 some students were reading while others were writing 有些学生在读书 有些在写. ①when是at or during the time that, 既指时间点，也可指一段时间，while是during the time that，只指一段时间，因此when引导的时间状语从句中的动词可以是终止性动词，也可以是延续性动词，而while从句中的动词必须是延续性动词。 ②when 说明从句的动作和主句的动作可以是同时，也可以是先后发生；while 则强调主句的动作在从句动作的发生的过程中或主从句两个动作同时发生。 ③由when引导的时间状语从句，主句用过去进行时，从句应用一般过去时；如果从句和主句的动作同时发生，两句都用过去进行时的时候，多用while引导，如： a. When the teacher came in, we were talking. 当此句改变主从句的位置时，则为： While we were talking, the teacher came in. b. They were singing while we were dancing. ④when和while 还可作并列连词。when表示“在那时”；while表示“而，却”，表对照关系。如： a. The children were running to move the bag of rice when they heard the sound of a motor bike. 孩子们正要跑过去搬开那袋米，这时他们听到了摩托车的声音。 b. He is strong while his brother is weak. 他长得很结实，而他弟弟却很瘦弱 |

1 when可以指动作一前一后发生（主从复合句中的动词都为瞬间动词），也可以指一个动作 发生在另外一个动作之间（主从复合句的动词一个是瞬间动词一个是延续性动词）。 The train had left when I got to the station. I met one of my old friends when I was walking in the street yesterday. 而while引导的主从复合句则通常都为延续性的动词，因而常常使用进行时态。 My mother was cooking while my father was watching TV. One boy is rowing while the other boy in the boat is dangling around his legs in the cool water of the lake. 一个男孩正在划船，而船里的另一个男孩则把腿悬垂在凉爽的湖水中。 2 when 可以用于 be about to do sth. when ...的固定结构当中 I was just about to call you when you called me. 3 while 可以表示对比关系“然而” He is short while his brother is tall. （1）when表示两个动作同时发生或之后发生，常与瞬时动词和延续性动词连用；while表示两个动作同时发生，常与延续性动词连用。 （2）只能使用be about to ... when...; (3) when 和 while都可表示虽然 ... 但是...。 |

When 可以表"突然";短暂性动作+WHEN+短暂性动作 while 表对比．有然而之意 接延续性动作 eg:His is white while my is black. |

补充下,when还可以在表示某个背景条件下"虽然,尽管" EX:They kept trying WHEN they knew it was hopeless |

１.when 后既可以接延续性动词也可以接非延续性动词而while后只可接延续性动词，这样的话你就可以看出这两个次的范围 ２.它们的不仅有以上用法方面的区别而且在意义方面个有自己使用范畴 when 可以表示＂当......的时候，如果＂而且在表示＂当......时候＂它引导的从句应该用相应的进行时态 while 表示转折，强调的是对比，译为＂然而＂的居多 |
