附:听力参考材料
Text 1
W:You should hand in your homework on time.
M: I'm sorry, Mrs. Smith. My mother was ill yesterday. Can I give it to you tomorrow morning?
Text 2
M:Claire, have you seen my backpack? I can't find it.
W: Um, look in the mirror. I see it on your back!
Text 3
W:Hi, Gabriel. How was your first day of work?
M: It was okay. The only bad thing was the cat in the office. I was sneezing all day!
W: People should not be allowed to bring their pets to work, in my opinion.
Text 4
W:I'm thinking of visiting Canada next summer. I'm going to visit Montreal first.
M: Montreal is a wonderful place. That's where I met my girlfriend. It is on the St. Lawrence River, which runs right through the city.
Text 5
W:Do you get a map?
M: Yeah. I bought this one at the news agency across the road. The one next to the butcher's.
Text 6
M:Hello, Jones.
W: Hi, Jim. What's up?
M: Do you want to share a taxi to the airport? We can save on expenses that way and you know the company is trying to cut costs.
W: Actually, I'm afraid of flying. I'm going to the conference by bus. I have to leave tomorrow because it's going to take two days to get there.
M: That's right. You dislike flying. Have a good journey!
W: Thank you. The same to you.
Text 7
W:I'm so tired of seeing advertisements on my computer.
M: What kind of ads are you talking about, Jane?
W: Pop-up ads all over the Internet. They're really bothersome.
M: I know how you feel. They're disturbing you much when you visit a website, but I don't have that problem any more.
W: Really? How did you get rid of those useless ads?
M: Well, I installed an ad-blocking program. It virtually stops all pop-ups.
W: Can you tell me the name of the program? I'd like to use it too.
M: Oh, it's on the tip of my tongue, but I can't remember it right now.
W: Then, could you tell me what it is later?
M: Sure. I'll tell you when I get home.
Text 8
W:What's the accommodation like in London, Ahmed?
M: Well, it's a bit difficult. There are thousands of overseas students, you know.
W:Which is the best, to stay in a hotel, to share a flat or to stay with a family?
M: It will probably be best to stay with a family to begin with, Carla.
W: You won't recommend sharing a flat?
M: No, I wouldn't move into a flat, if I were you. You won't do much study in the flat. You'll spend half your time cooking and cleaning.
W: How can I find out families who take in students?
M: The people at the student union should be able to help you find a family to stay with.
Text 9
M:I'd like to put an ad in the newspaper, please.
W: A classified ad?
M: Yes. I want to sell my furniture. I'm moving.
W: I see. May I have your name, please?
M: Bill Martin.
W: M-A-R-T-I-N. And your address?
M: The Garden Apartment on Books Road.
W: Well, the price depends on the size. So, if you want to use shorter words, that might save you some money.
M: Oh, that's a good idea. I have written down everything, but I'll just check it over before I give it to you. Maybe I should use phrases instead of sentences.
W: Would you like to pay in cash or by credit card?
M: I'm going to pay in cash.
W: Okay. You can use that table. Just bring it back to me when you are ready.
Text 10
He was the president of a major advertising firm and I was a very young management consultant. I had been recommended to him by one of his employees who had seen my work and thought I had something to offer. I was nervous. At that stage in my career, it wasn't very often that I got to talk to the president of a company. The appointment was at 10:00 am, for one hour. I arrived early.
Promptly at 10:00, I was guided into a large and airy room, with furniture decorated in bright yellow. He had his shirtsleeves rolled up and a mean look on his face. "You've only got 20 minutes," he barked. I sat there, not saying a word. "I said, you've only got 20 minutes. " Again, not a word. "Your time's ticking away. Why aren't you saying anything?""It's my 20 minutes," I replied. "I can do whatever I want with it. " He burst into laughter. We then spoke for an hour and a half. I got the job.
