Text 1
M: I want to have a single room for two nights.
W: Forty-five pounds a night, please.
Text 2
W:It's so hot today. I was going to wash the car and water the plants, but now I don't want to do anything.
M: I agree. You should have a rest. Too much work could cause you to feel uncomfortable.
Text 3
W: I bought a recorder on sale. It was$50.
M: Including a tax?
W: No, I paid another $2 in tax.
Text 4
W: You didn't go to the theatre last night, did you?
M: No, I had an unexpected guest in my house.
Text 5
M:Hello, I want to go on holiday at the seaside this weekend. Can you make a reservation for me?
W: Yes, certainly. Just tell me your name and phone number.
Text 6
M: Hello! I haven't seen you before.
W: I'm new here. I have just arrived at this school.
M: Really? Let me take you to your class. What class are you in?
W: I don't know.
M: Never mind. I will show you to the teachers' office. Come with me.
W: Thanks! Oh, by the way, I don't know where to put this bike.
M: Oh, you have got a bike, haven't you? You can put it over there.
W: It is very kind of you. Thank you.
M: Not at all. This way, please.
Text 7
W:Julia and I are driving downtown this afternoon. Want to come, Tom?
M: Thanks, Cathy. But I've got to study. I'm behind in chemistry.
W: Well, in that case, is there anything we can get for you?
M: I left my watch to be fixed at Gilson's the other day. It should be ready by now.
W: If you've got the claim check, I'd be glad to pick it up.
M: Well, Cathy, now that I think about it, I've got something else to do downtown. I have to buy something at the supermarket. Maybe I'd better go with you.
W: We'll be leaving from the parking lot. I'm behind with my work so we'll only be there for a couple of hours.
M: Oh. If it's only a couple of hours, I can certainly go.
W: Great! See you in a few minutes.
Text 8
W:I haven't seen you for a while. Where have you been?
M: I took a tour around the Great Lakes. Have you ever been there?
W: Oh, yes! When I was young, I lived in Erie Town and I used to go swimming in Lake Erie. We also went to Lake Ontario in Canada.
M: But I think that Lake Erie is so polluted now that everything living in it has died.
W: At one time Lake Erie was almost dead. But since both America and Canada took some action to fight against water pollution, there has been a great change. In fact, all the Great Lakes will probably be improved within the next generation.
M: I'm glad to hear that.
Text 9
W:Can I help you?
M: Yes. I wonder if you could look at my leg.
W: What's the matter with it?
M: I was bitten by a dog yesterday evening. It was bleeding quite badly.
W: Let's have a look at it then. I see. What did you do before coming here?
M: I washed the wound under running water for a few minutes. Then I dried it with a clean cloth and tied another piece of clean cloth around it.
W: Does it hurt?
M: Yes, it does hurt a bit.
W: Is it your dog?
M: No. It belongs to a neighbor.
W: This is very important. The dog must be examined immediately.
M: Why is that? The dog is usually very friendly.
W: If the dog with a disease bites you, you could die.
Text 10
M: Dear Mr. Smith, I've read your advertisement for a teaching assistant for a children's winter camp. I'm very interested in this position and I think my personality and working experience will qualify me for the job. To begin with, I gain much experience of working with children from my part-time job as a babysitter. Besides, I have been a helpful assistant for both my English teacher and my classmates. More importantly, I can speak English fluently, which will help me work with native teachers from English-speaking countries. I will be available for the work on evenings and weekends and can start working from the end of this term. I would really appreciate it if you could give me this opportunity so that I can accumulate more working experience.
Looking forward to your early reply. |
