Text 1
W: What do you think of the movie, Ted?
M:I have never seen a movie like that before. I should have just read a book instead.
Text 2
W:Mike, since you just bought a new computer, could you sell me your old one?
M: Sorry, I promised my brother I'd give it to him.
Text 3
M: Uncle Wang gave me the sweets.
W:Give them to me, please. They're bad for your teeth. I don't want to hear you crying when your teeth start hurting again.
Text 4
W: Could you pass me an apple?
M: Sorry, but there are only two pears and one banana left.
Text 5
M:It's the weekend again. Do you have any plans for tonight? How about going dancing?
W: Well, dancing is the last thing I want to do.
Text 6
W:Hello. Can I talk to David?
M: I'm sorry. David is out to have lunch now, and I'm his colleague.
W: Okay, I'm his wife. Could you tell him to call me back when he returns?
M: Sure.
W: Oh, thanks. Please tell him to call my cellphone number.
M: OK, I will.
W: Thank you very much.
M: My pleasure.
Text 7
W:Hi, how are you?
M: Fine. It's nice to see you. When did you get to the party?
W: Just a few minutes ago. I'm a little late because of the rain.
M: Yes, it's really raining hard out there, isn't it? But I think it will stop in the next hour or so.
W: I hope so. We're going to the baseball game tonight.
M: Oh, are you a baseball fan? I saw a game last week. Our team is really good this year, isn't it?
W: Yes. I'm really looking forward to the game. Oh, I saw Martha over there. Excuse me, I'm going to say hello to her.
M: Of course. Have a good time tonight.
Text 8
W:Hello, Ben, welcome to My Top Three.
M: Hello, it's great to be here.
W: So, imagine you're going to be alone on a desert island. You can take only three pieces of music. Which three do you want?
M: Well, it's very difficult to choose, but I think number three for me is Dancing Queen. It reminds me of my school life. After I finished my exams, I played it again and again. It made me feel so relaxed.
W: What about number two?
M: Number two for me is something completely different. It's The Show. I first heard it when I was in the subway station.
W: So, number one — what's your all time number one favorite piece of music?
M: Well. I think my favorite song ever is Circles. And I remember first listening to this song when I was on holiday in Spain.
W: A great choice. Thank you for coming in today to tell us about your top three.
Text 9
M: Can I help you?
W:Yes. I'm looking for a pair of jeans. By the way, are these jeans on sale? I like this style.
M:No, they are new arrivals. They are very popular this year. I think this green pair is a good fit for you. Why not try them on? The dressing room is right there in the corner.
W:The price is a bit high. The black ones are the same style as the green ones. Why are the prices different?
M:They are made of different materials, and the dark colored jeans are on sale now. Actually, both of them are of high quality. But the green ones are more popular. It's up to you.
W: Well, I'll take the black pair.
M: Do you want to try them on?
W: No, it's fine. Thanks.
M: Is that everything?
W: Yes, that's all.
M: Cash or credit card?
W: I'll pay in cash.
Text 10
Young people and older people do not always agree. They sometimes have totally different ideas about living, working and playing. But in one special program in New York, adults and teenagers live together in a friendly and peaceful environment.
Each summer, 200 teenagers and 50 adults live together for eight weeks as members of a special work group. Everyone works several hours each day. They do so not just to keep busy but to find meaning and fun in work. Some teenagers work in the forests or on the farms near the village. Some learn to make things like tables and chairs and to build little wooden houses. The adults teach them these skills.
There are several free hours each day. Weekends are free, too. During the free hours, some of the teenagers learn photography or drawing. Others just sit around and talk with the adults. Each teenager can choose his own way to spend his free time.
When people live together, they should have rules. In this program the teenagers and the adults make the rules together. |
