M:Excuse me, madam. How long can I keep the book?
W:For one month. Please make sure you return the book before July.
Text 2
M:Hurry up, Jenny. It’s already seven. We’ll be late for the film.
W:Don’t worry. We still have twenty minutes. And it takes us only fifteen minutes to get there. We’ll be there just in time.
Text 3
M:I heard on the radio that it’ll be sunny during the holiday. Maybe we can take a trip to Boston.
W:That sounds great. I’ll call Jane to see if she likes to join us.
Text 4
W:It’s nearly eight. If you want to catch the nine o’clock train, you’d better go now.
M:Don’t worry. I’ll drive to the station.
W:In that case, let me go with you. And you drop me off at the city center. I’ll go to the open market.
Text 5
W:I’m sorry, the cake is late. We’ll do better next time, I promise.
M:Well, I’m sorry too. You have to take it back. The birthday party is over and we don’t need the cake any more.
Text 6
W:Hey, Jack. How was your weekend?
M:Not bad. I went downtown to see a film with my roommate.
W:How was it?
M:Oh, it was wonderful, but my companion didn’t agree with me.
W:What do you mean?
M:Well, I liked the film, but my roommate thought the Titanic was some boat the Japanese sank during World WarⅡ.
W:Oh, not a very bright man.
Text 7
W:How did you like the dishes, sir?
M:Delicious. Everything was excellent here. Thank you!
W:Do you want some coffee, sir?
M:No thanks, I’m fine. Ah, just have the bill, please. How much is your service charge?
W:Fifteen percent and it’s included in your bill. Thank you very much, sir. We look forward to seeing you again.
M:Sure, good night.
Text 8
M:Hello. Excuse me. Do you remember me? I just had lunch here a half hour ago.
W:Of course I remember you. Can I help you?
M:I think I lost my wallet here.
W:Really? I didn’t see anything. Would you like to have a look by the table with me?
M:Yes, I would. It’s not here. And it’s not on the floor. Has anyone sat at this table since we left?
W:No. It’s been empty the whole time. And I remember, sir, that your friend took the bill. You didn’t pay for the lunch yourself, did you?
M:No. My friend did.
W:Then are you sure you took your wallet out of your pocket while you were here?
M:No, I’m not sure. But I usually take out my wallet when I sit down. It’s uncomfortable to sit on it. So I usually put it next to me on the table.
W:Or maybe you left it at home.
M:I don’t think it’s at home. I think I had it when I left the house. But what should I do?
W:Well, the first thing you should do is to make sure it’s not at home. Then, if it isn’t, you need to call your credit card companies and cancel your cards. Next, you need to replace whatever you lost, your driver’s license, things like that.
M:Many thanks for your help.
Text 9
W:Hi, Joe! Many people in our department are leaving for the Spring Festival. What are you going to do?
M:I think I’ll just stay at home. I may see some friends and watch a few DVDs. And I probably will go to the Ottawa Car Show. What about you, Ariel? What’s your plan?
W:I am going to do some traveling with my family.
M:Oh, where to?
W:Toronto. And on our way, we’re going to visit my aunt, Valley, in Kingston.
M:That’s exciting. How long do you plan to stay at your aunt’s?
W:Two days. I have a get-together party with my college friends on the tenth in Toronto. Oh, I’m afraid I’ve got to go now. My husband is waiting for me. And we’ll have to pick up Daniel from school. Have a nice holiday, Joe!
M:Thank you. You too!
Text 10
Our family is now trying to decide where to go for our vacation this summer. Our son Tom wants to go to Yellowstone National Park again to see the bears, but our daughter Susie doesn’t agree. We went there last summer and what an experience it was! When we got there, we put up our tent and went to explore. When we returned, we saw a bear enter our tent. "What shall we do?" Susie asked. "Maybe we could make him leave if we put some honey outside for him to eat," Tom suggested. Then I said, "How are you going to get the honey? It’s in the tent." So we could do nothing but wait there for the bear to come out. We could hear the bear turning over everything inside our tent. We waited and waited. It was very late and the bear still wouldn’t come out, so we decided to sleep in the car. |
