M: Annie, I’m sorry.
W: What for?
M: I’d like to lend you my camera for your holiday, but I won’t be able to. I’ve promised to take photos at Peter’s wedding.

M: I’ve been thinking about opening a fast food restaurant.
Text 3
W: Excuse me. I am looking for a book called Little Women, but I can’t find it anywhere.

M: I like my job, but I don’t make enough money.

W: I want to get a bite to eat. But I have no idea what I want.
M: You can get a burger, or some Chinese food, or maybe you can get some Mexican food.
W: I wouldn’t mind getting some Chinese food.
M: Where are you going to get your Chinese food from?
W: I’m not sure.
M: When I want Chinese food, I go to Panda Express. The food isn’t bad there.

M: Most of our customers are foreigners. How many foreign languages can you speak, Elizabeth?
W: Two, French and Spanish.
M: And how well can you speak them?
W: French was my best subject at school. I can read and write it pretty well.
M: And how about your Spanish?
W: Well, it’s not as good as my French. I can speak it reasonably well, but my written Spanish isn’t very good.
M: I see. We have a lot of Spanish customers, but you wouldn’t need to write any Spanish here.
W: In that case, I’m fit for the position.

M: The Hyundai Accent. It’s $ 135.99 per week plus taxes. All cars come with unlimited miles.
W: Not bad. What’s your high-end car?
M: The Ford Mustang. It would suit you very well!
W: Hmm. How much with tax?

M: I’d like a double room for tonight.
W: Do you have a reservation?
M: Yes. I called you last week from New York. My name is George Woods.
W: Wait a second, please. Yes, Mr. Woods, we have a room reserved for you. How long do you plan to stay?
M: Probably for two days. My wife will join me tomorrow. Then we’ll decide when to leave for Seattle.
W: Would you sign the register, please?
M: OK. By the way, does my room have a private bath?
W: Certainly. Every room in this hotel has a private bath.
M: Does my room have twin beds or a double bed? I prefer a room with twin beds.
W: Your room has twin beds, Mr. Woods. It also has a good view. I’m sure you’ll like it. This is your key. It’s on the eighth floor, room 801.The elevator is over there.
M: Thank you. One more thing, where is your restaurant?
W: The restaurant is on the second floor. We also have a cafeteria on the top floor.

Have you ever wondered where those lovely little teddy bears came from? They were named after President Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt in 1902.
Roosevelt was on a hunting trip in Mississippi when members of the hunting party caught a black bear and tied him to a tree. Then Roosevelt was called to the area to shoot the bear, which he refused to do and said it showed poor manners.
The Washington Post newspaper ran a cartoon showing the President refusing to shoot the bear and people all over America saw the cartoon.
Morris Michtom, a shopkeeper in Brooklyn, saw the cartoon and was inspired to create a teddy bear. He created a tiny soft bear and put it in the shop window with a sign "Teddy’s bear", after sending a bear to Roosevelt and receiving permission to use his name. The toys were an immediate success and Michtom founded the Ideal Novelty and Toy Company.
Today, teddy bears are treasured toys of children worldwide. They are sold by many companies and you can find them in almost any toy store, dressed in costumes or with a ribbon around the neck. |
