W: That's really amazing. So when did she first go to college?

M: In 1936. She entered the same college called Smith College that year. But she dropped out of school a year later.

W: Didn't she like her college life then?

M: Of course she liked her college life. She dropped out of college because her father thought that women should not receive a college education. So she had to work and help support her family.  

W: She must have been very sad.

M: Yes. So do you want to read the book?

W: Yes. And I also want to introduce it to my students.  I think they all should read it.

M: Hi, Polly, this is James. I'm just ringing to check that you're still OK to go camping with me at the weekend and tell you what I've planned. My parents thought it was probably better not to go too far away  because the weather hasn't been very good this week and if it rains all the time we might want to come home! They suggested our going to the campsite just outside Guilsfield. That's a village not far away.We can catch a bus to the village, and then we'll walk to the campsite.  It's on a farm. I stayed there once, about five years ago, with my parents and we had a car then of course, but we'll be OK. I've talked to my parents about what we need to take.  Well, you've got a tent which doesn't weigh too much, so can you bring that?  There's no need to bring food because we can eat at the farmhouse, but we need something for boiling water for drinks. I can bring something to cook. And I'll bring coffee and milk. We must get the tent up before dark on Friday, so we must meet at the bus stop at a quarter to four so we can catch the four o'clock bus. We'll reach the village at five.  I'm so excited!
