W: Jason, have you read today's newspaper?

M: No. I was surfing the Internet the whole morning. So what is in the paper?

W: A ship that was carrying 14,600 live sheep from Romania turned over in the Port of Midia in Romania last week.  The ship was sailing to Saudi Arabia.

M: I hope nobody died in it.

W: The ship's crew were all saved. Several different groups worked to rescue the sheep,but at the end of several days, only around 75 sheep were saved.  

M: That's really bad news. I don't think it's a good idea to move large numbers of live animals by ship.

W: I agree. Even when ships sail safely, the conditions often aren't good for animals.

M: You're right. I watched a video on the Internet in April last year.  It showed thousands of sheep dying in the heat on a trip from Australia to the Middle East.

W: Poor animals!  I don't think live animals can survive in such weather as today's on a ship.  

M: Yes. The temperature is just too high in summer for both humans and animals.

W: Do you love math? If you do, why not go to take part in the Noetic Learning Math Contest? The contest is a problem-solving contest for students in Grades 2 to 8. It takes place once every half a year.  The goal of the competition is to encourage students' interest in math, to develop their problem-solving skills, and to inspire them to do well in math. During the contest, students are given 45 minutes to solve 20 problems.  Many problems are designed to challenge students and to enrich their problem-solving experience. Teachers in any public school or private school are encouraged to ask their students to take part in the contest. The top 10% of all students in the contest in each grade will receive "National Honor Roll" medals. The highest scorer of each team will receive a "Team Winner" medal.  The top 10% of teams will receive "Team Achievement Plaques (奖章)".
