Text 1
M: Being a secretary sounds like a pretty good job. Why do you want to change your job?
W: It's hard to tell, but generally speaking, I want to meet more challenges.
Text 2
M: Hey, Lucy. Would you like to go to the concert with me tonight?
W: I'd love to, but I'm just getting over a very bad cold.
Text 3
M: Excuse me, madam. I need to send a letter.
W: Please go right to the fourth window.
Text 4
M: Where have you been? It's already 5 o'clock. I expected you back this morning.
W: My plane was late because there was something wrong with one of the engines.
Text 5
M: Hi, Jane. I've come to say goodbye. I'm flying to Beijing for a visit tomorrow.
W: Well, have a nice trip!
Text 6
W: Hello, David. I'm calling to ask whether you can pick me up at the airport tomorrow afternoon.
M: When?
W: At 4:00.
M: I am afraid I can't. I will be giving a report then. Susan will be available the whole day. I will ask her to pick you up.
W: Thanks. But doesn't Susan have to work tomorrow?
M: She has quit her job and is looking for a new one.
W: Why, what a good salary she got!
M: She said good pay couldn't make up for the loss of health. She couldn't sleep well every night due to the stress.
W: I can't agree more. The work was too stressful.
M: Yes. But her boss Bruce was quite satisfied with her.

M: Hello, welcome to our program "Today City". I'm Larry. We're going to Louisville, Kentucky where our guest Michelle Ray comes from. She is proud of her middle-sized city with a small town feel and big city dreams. Now, Michelle, tell us about your city.
W: Thank you, Larry. Here is my city. Louisville is my city. The first place I take visitors from out of town to is the Highlands for shopping and nightlife. When I have delicious Asian food I always go to the Zen Garden which provides all wonderful vegetable dishes.
M: Wow! That's interesting! Many people go for healthy food now.
W: You can say that again. If I want to go camping and fishing, I go to the Red River Gorge. For complete quiet I can hide away in my house with a good book from one of our public libraries.
M:That all sounds very exciting. I'm sure some of our listeners will include Louisville in their travel plan for their next holiday. Thank you, Michelle.
Text 8
M: Is it true that you no longer swim at all now?
W: I'm afraid so. I'm too old.
M: But you are only twenty-one.
W: That's too old for a swimmer. If I swam in an international competition now, I wouldn't win. So I'd rather not swim at all.
M: But don't you enjoy swimming?
W: I used to, when I was small. But if you enter for big competitions, you have to work very hard. I used to get up at 6 to go to the pool. I had to train before school, after school and on weekends. I swam forty miles every week!
M: But you were so famous at fourteen. And look at all those cups.
W: It's true that I did have some wonderful memories. The Olympics were very exciting. But I missed some important things too. While other girls were playing, I was swimming.
Text 9
W: What do you plan to do tomorrow?
M: I don't know. Maybe just stay at home and watch TV.
W: Oh, come on! It's Sunday. We should go out and have fun.
M: Where would you like to go?
W: What about the Cool Club?
M: Oh, it's cheap and not far but they always have rock music. I don't want to dance to such noisy music. I think we should go to the Latin Club.
W: The Latin Club?
M: Yes. At least it's real dance! That's better than just shaking your body! What's more, this week they have a famous Brazilian band playing nice Latin music in it.
W: Latin music is OK with me, but the problem is that I know nothing about the dance steps.
M: That's no big deal. I can teach you. It's not difficult.
W: All right. I'll go with you.

It was 2:10 in the afternoon. When I went into the classroom, I was surprised to see a video camera. Our class teacher was operating the camera, and my classmates were all discussing it with each other. Most of us had never been in front of a video camera before, so we were quite nervous. As for myself, I had once faced one at home. My uncle was shooting when we were celebrating my sister's birthday. But this was completely different. We had to read our articles as if we were reading news on TV. The funny thing was that every time I tried to face the camera and recite my article, I forgot the article and couldn't resist looking down at it. Because I had never recited my own article before a video camera. It was a completely different experience for me, thanks to our class teacher.
