W:Don't rush me. I'm putting on make-up. It's just 6 o'clock. There is still one hour left before the party begins.

M: But it will normally take us 45 minutes to get there, so hurry up!

M:Fiona, this weather is unbelievable. I can’t remember the last time we had such a wet summer. It’s so cool.

W: But for people like me who love outdoor activities, it is terrible. Fine days without wind are best for going out.

W: Hello, this is Mrs. Smith on 101 Street. There is something wrong with my Internet access. Can you send someone to fix it?

M: OK. When is it convenient for you?

W: Well, I have to search for some information for my speech  the day after tomorrow. That's Monday. And I will be going  downtown for a meeting tomorrow. So could you send somebody here today?

M: Sure. I'll book the repair service for you now. And the repairman will contact you later for details.

M: Good morning, Jane. 

W: Good morning, Peter. I haven't seen you for a couple of days. What are you doing these days?

M: I have been busy with my project. It is a little demanding. And now I'm going to the city library to borrow some books for reference.

W: How will you get there?

M: My roommates suggest that I should take the bus, but I prefer to ride my bicycle.  

W: Don't you like traveling by bus?

M: Not exactly, but taking a bus is not that convenient. Though there is a bus stop just behind the apartment and the bus may not be crowded at this point, I have to change to get to the city center. Also, riding my bicycle doesn't cost anything.

W: But it may take you a longer time to get there. Ah, I'm going to the city center to pick up my friends this afternoon. Maybe I can give you a lift if you are not in a hurry.

M: That would be wonderful. Thanks so much.

W: Not at all. 

W: Can I help you with anything, sir?

M: Yes, I'm going to attend my brother's birthday party. Could you recommend a shirt to me?

W: Of course. Come over here and have a look at this shirt. It sells very well.

M: Oh, yes! I like the designs on it, but I'd better try it on. Last month my daughter bought me a coat. It was of high quality, but was a little big and didn't fit properly.

W: OK. The fitting room is over there. If you need a different size, just ask and I will get it for you.

M: Thanks. Excuse me, I've done. It looks good and I think I'll take it.

W: OK. By the way, we have other shirts suitable for work or travel. And some are the latest fashion. Would you like to have a look?

M: Thanks, but I think I will only buy this shirt. Is it on sale?

W: Yes. It costed $40 originally and we knock 30% off this week.

M: Great. Please pack it for me.

M: Tina, have you heard that? Students in some schools are organized to visit the Great Wall, the Summer Palace or the Palace Museum after final exams.

W: Yes. I just took my students to the Summer Palace last week.

M: Really? Tell me about it, Tina. How did you produce the idea?

W: Well, there were many exams at the end of this term and I saw how kids were affected. Many were always on edge, worrying that they hadn't done well. I thought the activity could help calm their nerves.

M: Pretty good. And how did the children feel about the activity?

W: Some kids thought it boring on the way there.  But after they arrived and hiked through the park, they became very excited and relaxed. They said it was really cool !

M: Wonderful. It must have broadened their horizons.

W: Absolutely. And I think they have learned something that couldn't be achieved in the classroom as well.

M: Then were there any unexpected effects?

W: Yes. Students who might have trouble in the classroom performed well outdoors. That helped build their confidence during the trip. This was really great.

M: Yeah. It was really good for them, both physically and mentally.

For decades, popcorn and movies have gone hand in hand. However, the relationship between the two was formed later than you may think. Back in the 1920s , movie theaters were well designed and popcorn wasn't permitted there. The reason theater owners opposed selling popcorn wasn't that popcorn was unpopular. The snack had been loved by people, especially kids, for decades and  had a reputation for being a street food.  The owners were against popcorn because they believed it would damage the top-quality atmosphere they wanted to create.  In the mid 1920s , more movie theaters opened. Not all of these new theaters were fancy. They allowed people to eat popcorn while watching movies.  A couple of years later, the Great Depression hit America. In order to survive, theaters had to lower their ticket prices.  And moviegoers would often buy a bag of popcorn since it was the only snack that had remained cheap. Soon, movies and popcorn became a popular pairing across the United States. Some theater owners even bought machines to produce popcorn themselves. The smell of popcorn filled movie theaters. Today, popcorn is considered an essential part of the moviegoing experience.
