W: Me, too. There's not a cloud in the sky. What a treat this is after all that rain last week!

W: John, the pot is boiling! What do you want me to do? Should I take it off the heat and put the soup into bowls?
M: No, Amy. Just turn down the heat and cover for another 10 minutes. And then you can turn the heat off.

M: Jessica, I won't buy batteries like these any more. I'm always waiting four hours for them to charge.
W: You must have an old charger. Mine can charge big batteries in half that time, and small ones in a quarter of that time.

M: Let's go camping for our next holiday. We could buy a nice big tent.
W: No way. You will not get me in a tent, and I don't like tree houses, either. Maybe a motor home.

W: Hello?
M: Oh, hello. This is Jack. I'm ringing about the advertisement in yesterday's newspaper... the one for the bookcases. Are they still available?
W: We've sold a black one, but we still have two white ones.
M: Right. Er, I'm looking for something to fit in my study. I'm not too worried about the height, but the width is quite important. Can you tell me how wide each of them is?
W: Sure. They're both 75 cm wide and 180 cm high.
M: Fine. And I don't want anything made of metal or plastic. I am really looking for something made of wood.
W: That's it. They are, both of them.

W: Ah, Martin. Come in and sit down. I want to talk to you about your science project.
M: I'm really sorry, Miss Johnson. I know it's short but I couldn't think of anything else.
W: Martin, relax. I think your project is wonderful.
M: What?
W: I asked you to explain the workings of a coffee machine. You described it briefly and perfectly.
M: Wow. I wasn't expecting that.
W: The best descriptions are short and clear, so that everyone can understand them. That's what yours are like.
M: Really?
W: Yes. You did very well. I was going to give you a hundred marks for the project. But your writing is a bit untidy, so I have knocked off one mark.
M: Thank you so much.

W: Hi, Mr. Green. My father is asking for advice about his health.
M: Hello, Lisa. Is anything wrong with him right now? The last time we met, he seemed quite fit.
W: Yes, his doctor ordered some tests last Wednesday, because he was having trouble walking. The results showed there was a sign of heart disease. His doctor recommended medicine as well as an operation, but my father didn't want an operation. I know you're against unnecessary operations for your own patients. Can you help him out?
M: I'm so sad to hear that he's suffering from health problems, and I'll certainly do all I can to help him. I can give him even more support after finding out the results of a study done at Oxford University. The research was just made public on Saturday.
W: Oh? Tell me about it, please.
M: Well, the researchers basically tracked results from people who were given medicine only, and people who were given medicine as well as operations that were supposed to prevent heart attacks.
W: And what is the conclusion?
M: There are several discoveries. But the main one that concerns your father is that patients who had an operation had a greater chance of having heart attacks in the next few years.
W: That's terrible!
M: It is. Why don't you ask your father to meet me at my office on Monday afternoon? I'll have time to talk about heart problems with him then.
W: I will. Thank you, Mr. Green.

W: I would like to buy two tickets for my friend and me to London, please. And we need to leave today. There is something urgent on business.
M: Are you aware that prices without two weeks’ advance notice will be very high? And today is Saturday. I'm afraid there may be no tickets left. Oh, luckily, here are two tickets to London, but they're economy, not first-class. One-way or round-trip?
W: I wish we could stay there, but unfortunately they will have to be round-trip tickets.
M: When would you like to return?
W: We will stay there for seven days.
M: OK. I have booked you on Flight 513 leaving at 8:15 am and arriving in London at 8:05 pm tonight. The return is Flight 514 leaving at 6:50 pm on November 5th and arriving in New York at 6:30 am the next day.
W: Perfect! We still have time to go to the shops in the airport before we leave. Oh, but how much are they?
M: Two return tickets to London. It is 1, 200 pounds in total.

W: Welcome to Good Morning Nashville! I'm Meagan, and I'll get right into the updates for today. As you can see on the map, the big storm has finally turned away from Atlanta. It has changed its course once again, and looks to be headed for Charlotte , rather than heading south towards New Orleans. By now, its power has definitely lowered, but people in Charlotte should make sure they are prepared for what is to come. We recommend that every family buy an extra three to five days' worth of water and food just in case of an emergency. Move all cars into garages or away from trees, and don't forget to tie anything down that could be blown away by the wind. Also remember that if the roads begin to flood, it is generally safer to remain in your homes than trying to leave the area. Moving on to our local area, finally after nearly two weeks’ worth of rain, the sky is starting to clear up. It was a rough winter and a wet spring, but we've made it through those hard times and the end of June will be sunny and warm.
