Some students take community college classes to get job training. Others go to community colleges to take lower-cost classes before moving to a four-year university. But recent research suggests that more and more students are no longer choosing to attend community colleges. Some students say credits for classes at community colleges do not gain recognition by four-year colleges, and some employers say workers from community colleges are not always ready for jobs. At the same time, though college education is useful, there are many jobs for people without college education, which makes people believe they do not need college. Unexpectedly, the number of students at U.S. community colleges has dropped by 37 percent, or about 2.6 million since 2020. Those numbers come from an occupation research center, a non-profit group. During the same period, the cost of higher education in the U.S. went up sharply. Many private four-year colleges can cost $40,000 per year. However, community colleges cost, on average, is even less than $4,000 per year. Moreover, researchers are remotely investigating headmasters of community colleges about their policies related to the school fees.

Good evening, everyone. It’s your trusted weather reporter, James Powers. As you’ve noticed, there’s been a rainfall of  10 inches since this afternoon. Starting at around 2: 00 p.m., this storm has shown itself to be much stronger than we thought. We expect an additional six inches of rain by tomorrow noon.

Luckily, this storm hasn’t caused significant ocean waves to flood the streets. So, coastal neighborhoods and suburban towns aren’t in danger.But, unluckily, the flooding and rain will hit us right here in the city. That means this city’s downtown areas are most at risk.

Now, our city’s emergency rescue team has offered valuable advice. I’ll share some of these suggestions now. First, for people living in ground-level apartments, try to stay with friends or family elsewhere. Besides, for anyone with large glass windows, do whatever possible to protect the exposed glass. Finally, to all viewers, do not attempt to drive anywhere. Panic from this storm has caused heavy traffic on all roads leaving Manhattan.

W: Good morning. I’m very pleased to have this opportunity to say a little about an exciting new development in the city, the Brackenside Open-Air Swimming Pool. As many of the older members of the audience remember, there used to be a wonderful open-air pool on the seafront 30 years ago but it had to close when it was judged to be unsafe. There’ll also be a competition for the public to decide on the sculpture we plan to have at the entrance: You will decide which famous  historical figure from the city we should have. 

W: Yes. I did a unit called “The Art of Writing” as part of my undergraduate degree at Moi University. But it was not really enough to prepare one to be a writer. 

M: So what else helped you become a writer? 

W: I think studying literature in university was helpful. As a literature student, I learned about writing by experiencing writing first hand. Reading helped too. After getting my PhD, I became a university lecturer. I read widely about creative writing. 

M: Did you read in order to become a writer?

W: Not really. I just wanted to become a better literature teacher. Later I ended up teaching a course on creative writing at Daystar University. All of these experiences helped me become a creative writer. 

M: So do you have a lot of time to write now? 

W: Not really. Now I’ve got a family to take care of. But Henry is very supportive. He sometimes takes our kids out so that I can write.

I once met a man who changed how I saw the world. I was walking along the street, in a hurry to meet some friends at a café. I was so busy messaging on my phone that I didn’t see the old man until I’d walked into him. The old man fell to the ground. I apologized and helped him up. He said that young people like me were always so focused on our phones, and that we never stopped to see the world around us. And then I realized that the old man had been giving a tour to a group of tourists, who were all standing watching me. Instead of getting angry, the old man invited me to join his tour. I explained that I was in a hurry to meet some friends. “It’s your loss,” he said. I got curious, so I messaged my friends to say I’d be late and joined the tour. Then I listened as the old man spoke about the building in front of us, learning all about its history. I had walked by the building hundreds of times, but I did not know anything about it. I learned more about my city on that afternoon than I had in the 18 months I had lived there.

According to an article in The Telegraph, learning a foreign language is not only great for your resume and for traveling, but also will make you smarter and better at coming to a decision. The article refers to several studies from medical journals published by the top universities in the U.S. These studies have shown that the brains of people who speak more than one language function differently from those who only speak one language. There are many benefits of speaking more than one language. For example, you become better at performing more than one task at a time. Your memory improves and your ability to observe things gets better. You can still gain those benefits as an adult but not as strongly as a younger person could. At the same time, the more languages you know, the stronger those benefits become no matter how old you are.

Since several informed studies are mentioned in the article, it shows that the conclusions made about learning different languages are truthful. It is important to have different views when people are discussing a topic. The more scientific studies are repeated, the more accurate they are. If a scientist only tried their experiment one time, they cannot ensure the accuracy of their results.
