W: How did you become an artist, David?
M: As a kid, I loved to draw. I was born and educated in Manchester. My uncle was a school art teacher and he often took me to art museums. By the time I was ten, I wanted to be an artist.
W: Did you like any artist in particular?
M: I used to be a big fan of Andy Wells. But when I developed my own style, I then discovered that Tom Jackson spoke most deeply to me.
W: But your style is nothing like Jackson's.
M: I know, but after I studied his work for some time, I learned that his sense of freedom was key. This inspired me to create my own style.
W: Well, you've certainly succeeded in doing that. What's next for you, David?
M: I have stayed in New York for nearly six years by now, and I need a change. So I am planning to spend some time in East Asia.
W: Why is that?
M: The art scene there is very exciting. I will visit Beijing and see traditional Chinese paintings. But I'll go to Japan first and stay there for a month.
W: Have you decided when you will leave?
M: Not exactly, but I think I will leave in early November.
听下面一段独白,回答第17至第20四个小题。现在你有20秒钟的时间阅读这四个小题。
Text 10
After I held my fourteenth birthday party, my father let me cut grass with him. I felt proud and excited because my father thought I was responsible enough to help him in his business. Still, that first day was very hard. From sunrise to sunset, my father, my elder brother and I worked in very large yards. By the end of the day, I was tired, but I felt good. I had put in a hard day's labor and earned six dollars.
One day, my father found some grass I had missed cutting and demanded that I cut that section again. Besides, he warned me not to make such a mistake again. The lesson was very clear. Today I stress the importance of doing the job well the first time. In every job I have held from cutting lawns to washing dishes to working a machine on the construction site, I have learned something that helps me in my next job. If you work hard enough, you can learn from any job you do.
