M: Vincent van Gogh was a great painter. Famous for its beauty and color, his work greatly influenced 20th-century art. Van Gogh was born on March 30, 1853 in the Netherlands. He had two younger brothers and three younger sisters. By the age of 16, Van Gogh had to leave school and go to work to support his family. Apart from his native Dutch, he also spoke good French, German and English. In 1873, Van Gogh went to work in England. There, he fell in love with English culture, and became a fan of Charles Dickens. In the fall of 1880, Van Gogh decided to become an artist. In 1886, he joined his brother Theo in Paris and began to develop his unique style. Despite his talent, Van Gogh remained poor and unknown throughout his life. He was very close to Theo, who supported him by giving him money and helping him sell his paintings.
