Text 1
W:I hope you can come to the party on Saturday.
M:I didn’t know I was invited.
W:Sure you are. Everyone in our office is invited.
Text 2
W:May I help you?
M:Yes.Do you have these shoes in size seven?
W:I’m not sure. If you can’t find them on the shelf, they may be out of stock. But let me look in the stockroom.
Text 3
W:Have you been working out?
M:Yeah, as a matter of fact, I’ve been going to the gym for half a year.
W:I can tell. You look really healthy. And no more beer belly.
Text 4
M:Excuse me, can you tell me when the museum is open to the public?
W:It’s open from 10 am to 5 pm, Monday through Saturday. It’s closed on Sunday.
M:Thanks. I’ll have to be here tomorrow.
Text 5
M:Did you have a problem with your computer, Pam?
W:Yes, Tom. But Jack fixed it. I just had a hard time with my computer.
Text 6
W:How many boxes do we still need to pack, Gail? We’ve been packing all day.
M:Wait a moment. Let me see...We still have to do about ten more.
W:Well, I’m really tired of packing all of the stuff all day. And it’s about time to go home.
M:I know. Maybe we can finish it tomorrow.
W:Why not? These orders are not urgent. We could do it first tomorrow morning.
M:All right. Let’s stop here and go home. Remember we must do it tomorrow.
W:No problem.
Text 7
W:It was very nice of you both to take me to the airport.
M:Oh, it’s our pleasure. You’ll keep in touch with us at the office, won’t you?
W:Of course. By the way, if you have time, why don’t you come to Beijing while I’m there?
M:What a great idea! Wouldn’t a trip to Beijing be wonderful?
W:Well, the trip is wonderful, but to be honest, the exchange rate is too high.
M:You have a point there. Oh, it sounds like they’re boarding now. Have a good trip.
Text 8
W:What do you want to do now?
M:I want to be back to the hotel.
W:But it’s only three o’clock.
M:I’m worn out. We’ve done a lot of sightseeing.
W:We will have plenty of time to do the shopping. The stores won’t close until six o’clock.
M:No, I want to rest for a while. We’re going to the theater tonight, you know.
W:Of course, I know. The play starts at seven o’clock. When we finish shopping, it will probably be just after six.
M:Then where shall we have our supper? And in that case, shall we have enough time to get to the theater by underground railway?
W:No, but we can take a taxi. It’s more expensive, but it’s a lot easier.
M:Will our money see us through our tour if we spend money like that?
W:Oh, sorry. I didn’t think of that.
Text 9
M:Beautiful day, isn’t it?
W:Yes, it is. We haven’t had such a nice day for a long time. It’s a perfect day for outdoor sports.
M:Yeah. I love it. Well, what are you going to do today?
W:I’m not sure. Maybe we’ll go for a bike ride. I have been looking forward to this.
M:Sounds great. But make sure you don’t go too far.
W:Why not?
M:Well, it’s still winter. The weather is always changeable at this time of year. Last time when we went out for a bike ride, we got caught in a heavy shower, and we were 50 miles away from home! And later both of us caught a bad cold.
W:That’s terrible. I will take your advice. Safety is the most important thing after all. Thanks for your reminding me.
Text 10
M:Hello, everyone. My name is John. I’m the teaching assistant for this lab session. Let me explain a little about it. As you may know already, it’s a required meeting once a week.I expect you to do all the experiments and keep the results in your lab notebook. I’ll collect the notebooks every two weeks. You’ll be graded on lab notebooks and quizzes. But the most important information I want to give you now is about safety. First of all, you must wear shoes that cover your feet in the lab. Tennis shoes are OK. Also, don’t wear loose clothes, long scarves, big necklaces or loose belts. They could get caught in something or fall into liquid. Another thing to do for safety is cleaning up. Be sure to put the waste in the correct containers. We can’t mix liquid with paper. This is extremely important. I don’t want any fires in this room. You are responsible for washing out your own lab equipment and putting it away. If you don’t do this, I will take away points from your grade. Nobody’s going to clean up after you. Okay, any questions?
