Text 1
M: Hi, Customer Service Desk. What can I do for you today, ma'am?
W: Good morning. I bought a TV set and a fridge here a few months ago. But the fridge doesn't work now. Can I get it fixed?
Text 2
W:How was your holiday in the lakeside house?
M:It was great! We left our car on one side of the lake and went across it by boat. The only problem was that it was far from the local shop. Getting there turned out to be my job — on a bicycle!
Text 3
W: The school looks so different. Where is the canteen?
M: It's in the basement. There was a rebuilding program last year. And they're building a new sports center. It should be open to the new students in September.
Text 4
M: I have an extra ticket to the concert tonight. Would you like to join me?
W: Thanks, but I already have one. You can ask Emily. She might be interested.
Text 5
W: Can we change the channel, Dad?
M: Not until this film has finished. I'm enjoying it!
W: But how can you be interested in a police story? I'm sure the quiz that I want to watch is more exciting.
M: Not for me. But we can watch the football match together later if you like.

M: I'm going to apply for a job at Joplin's. I heard they're paying $ 12 an hour. That's the best starting salary I've found!
W: Yes, that is a good working salary, but their benefits are terrible. If I were you, I'd think twice before working for them.
M: How do you know so much about Joplin's?
W: My husband used to work there. They give no health insurance benefits to their part-time workers, but they're on call for all the major holidays!
Text 7
M: Can you describe the room to me, please?
W: Certainly. First, there's a big double bed, and of course there's a telephone by the bed, and you have the radio alarm next to that. Then there's a TV...
M: Oh, well, are the bed sheets changed every day?
W: Yes. They're changed every day. And in fact the pillows are filled with a special material instead of cotton, which can help you fall asleep.
M: I'm allergic to flowers.
W: I'm sure they're not dried flowers. But I'm sorry I can't remember the name.
M: Well, that seems to be just fine.

W: How is your university life?
M: Wonderful. I joined the student union and made many friends. Last Sunday, I went for a picnic with my classmates. Oh, what about your life at Yale University? Anything interesting?
W: Yeah. Every Friday, we have "happy hours". We can drink and eat free in the dinning hall.
M: Oh, really?
W: Yeah. Many people chat and laugh. Sometimes, some professors may also show up.
M: Great fun. Any other interesting things?
W: Let me see. Last Sunday, I was invited to a professor's house.
M: It seems you keep a good relationship with teachers.
W: Yeah. At Yale, it's common for teachers to invite students to their houses.
M: It's amazing. I also want to go to Yale after graduation.

M: Is that a new coat? I've never seen you in it before.
W: It's not new, but it was hidden in the back of my closet. I had totally forgotten about it until I cleaned out my living room this weekend.
M: Well, it's sure a unique coat. I love all the colors! It sure brightens up the office.
W: Yeah, I feel like I'm at a fashion show when I wear it. And what I really like about it are all these hidden pockets.
M: How clever! How could you have forgotten this treasure?
W: Out of sight, out of mind. When I bought it, it was too small for me, so I hid it away. I've been losing weight, and it finally fits me.
M: You always look good, but you really look nice now. How did you lose weight? Running every day?
W: Easier than that, actually. I just decided to write down everything I eat.
M: How could writing help you lose weight?
W: You'd be surprised at how much you eat if you wrote it down all day. It really makes people think twice about what they put in their mouth.

M:Attention, runners! Thank you for signing up to participate in the 10th Autumn Fun Run! At exactly 8 o'clock in the morning, our race will begin. Please line up according to how fast you ran in the practice run; everyone should have the number you got at the registry. Look for signs and follow them. Our course is exactly 10 kilometers long. Water stations will be available every two miles. Our volunteers will be at these stops, ready to give you sports drinks and food. We know that many runners love to run with music; however, it is not allowed during our race. Also, many hikers use our narrow tracks, and they may have dogs or small children. Therefore, to reduce the chance of injury for everyone, we ask you not to use headphones on our course at all. Our course will be taken down at noon. All runners and walkers should have completed the course by then. Please talk to one of our volunteers if you need any help. There're doctors at the start and finish lines until one o'clock. Also, photos will be taken of runners at the finish line. And there are reporters who will interview the winners. Visit our website to view and purchase your race photos!
