Text 1

W: International Shipping, Elaine speaking, may I help you?

M: Allan MacFarlane speaking. Could I speak to Bob Harris, please?

W: Hold on a moment please, Mr. MacFarlane. I'll just put you through.

Text 2

M: I am so tired of driving all those hours to work.

W: Yeah. I know what you mean. I used to drive two hours to work each day. But now, I live within walking distance of my office. I don't even need a bike.

Text 3

W: I hate to say it. But Jacky isn't doing well in the film.

M: Well, I think he's only playing a different type of role. My sister thinks he is still the best.

Text 4

W: Can I come to see you at 10:00, Professor Brown?

M: I'm sorry, Susan, but I'll be meeting my students then. Why not come half an hour later?

Text 5

W: Oh, man, you look awful. Do you have that flu everybody's lately got?

M: No, I probably look terrible because I stayed up all last night studying, but I should be fine after some sleep.

Text 6

W: Hey, Tony. I have some bad news.

M: Hi, Tina. What's wrong?

W: Sorry, I'm afraid I can't go to Beijing with you this weekend.

M: How come?

W: I have a really important history test and I have to study for it.

M: We can go next week instead.

W: No, I don't want to ruin your weekend. You go ahead and please take the book I bought to my friend Mary. Tell her I have to study all the weekend because I can't afford to fail the test.

M: OK, then I'll still go. But it's a pity that you can't come.

Text 7

M:I've read your resume. But why did you leave your last job? I know the company where you worked for five years is a good one.

W:Yes, it's good. But the manager was changed last month. We didn't get along, so I quit.

M:I understand. Why would you like to join our company?

W:I'm qualified for this position. And I've heard a lot of good things about your company.

M:Like what?

W:You take care of your employees. And your company offers good salaries and benefits.

M:That's good to know. Why do you think you're qualified for this position?

W:I've got over seven years' experience working in this kind of position. I know I can do a good job in this position.

Text 8

W: Are you ready for your study abroad?

M: Not really. I still have to buy some clothes.

W: Well, what's the weather like where you are going?

M: It's really hot in the summer, so I'm going to buy some shorts and a few T-shirts.

W: What about the rest of the year?

M: People say that the fall can still be warm until November, so I'm going to buy some jeans and a few casual shirts.

W: Will you need any warm clothes for the winter?

M: Well, the weather doesn't get too cold, but it often snows in the mountains, so I'm going to buy a couple of warm sweaters, a jacket, and a hat. I don't have room in my suitcase to pack a coat, so I'm going to wait until I get there and buy it when I really need it.

W: Are you going to take anything else?

M: They say it rains cats and dogs in the spring, but again, I'll probably just wait and pick up a raincoat later on. But I'm going to take a good pair of shoes because I plan on walking to and from school every day.

Text 9

W: OK, so it's up to us to hold the last school year party for our class. How can we make it a really good one?

M: Well, it shouldn't be too difficult. Everyone will be so happy that all their exams are over and they'll all want to have a party. We just need good music.

W: No. We should do something to make it really special. We could ask people to dress up. We could tell everyone to come as a famous character from a film.

M: But it'll be difficult to find the clothes.

W: Well, maybe you're right. What else could we do then?

M: We could organize some games and competitions!

W: Well, I like games. But it might seem a bit like school if we have competitions.

M: Yeah, but we could think of some fun games.

W: OK. We can talk about it tomorrow. Let's think about food now. What about bread or fried chicken? They are easy to prepare.

M: Why not have different kinds of pizza? Everyone likes pizza.

W: Good idea.

Text 10

M: This year, the Summer Festival is the biggest we've ever seen, so there should be something for everybody. This is the third year they've run it and the timing is slightly different: for the last couple of years it's been from the fifth to seventeenth, but this year they've put it at the end of the month.

The program has theatre dance and a large number of art exhibitions, but the thing the festival is most famous for is its great street music. For today's report though, I'm looking at some of the theatrical events that you might like to see, in particular, at this year's theme — the circus.

There are two circus performances. The first is the Circus Romano. As this is a travelling circus, it'll be performing in a tent, usually put up in a green space. There are no animals — just very talented clowns. It's really for adult tastes.

The second is Circus Electrica at the Studio Theatre. It's a showcase for skills in dance and music. An interesting feature of the show is that the performers are so young — the youngest is only fourteen. It's a good one for the whole family.

Then finally, as it's summer, there are some performances presented outdoors, like the famous Mekong Water Activity, performing in the City Gardens this week. It's a must-see for young children. Well, that's all I have time for today.
