M: Are you going to class, Jenny?

W: No, I am wondering if I can get a ride to the library. I'm supposed to meet my professor there at 1 pm.

Text 2

W: I would have come back a week earlier, but the weather was so bad that I couldn't travel.

M: That's a real pity. The festival lasted 14 days, and it just finished yesterday.

Text 3

M: Which would you rather have, an iPhone or an iPad?

W: To be honest, I don't really care about technology. I'm happy with my old phone and old computer.

Text 4

W: Excuse me, does the No.36 bus go to the new bookstore?

M: No, you'll have to get off at the bank, and take a No.50.

W: Thank you.

Text 5

M: Nancy, you eat like a bird.

W: Yeah, but I always feel stuffed.

M: I'm always very hungry. I can eat anything.

Text 6

W: Have you finished Mr.Crocker's report yet?

M: Oh, please don't mention it. I haven't even started writing it.

W: You must be kidding. It's due the day after tomorrow. How can you finish it on time?

M: I've been reading all the information I need to write about it. But the more I read, the more I want to know.

W: What are you researching?

M: First,I was into the environment, then the government, but then I found something really interesting.Have you heard about the controlled media? That's what I'm going to write about.

W: Good luck!

M: Hello. Can I help you?

W: Oh, hello. Yes. I want something to wear at a meeting.

M: So, you're looking for something quite smart.

W: Yes. Some kind of business suit...Hmm, this is nice. Is this on sale?

M: Yes, it is. This dress is 25 percent cheaper than usual. It's a real deal.

W: Hmm. It's still a bit expensive for me. Can this dress be cheaper?

M: Oh, no, I'm sorry.

W: Oh, well, can I try it on?

M: Yes, of course. The changing room is just over there.

W: Thanks.

Text 8

W: Thank you, Paul, for giving your time to this interview on changing family roles. Now, I understand you take care of the baby.

M: That's right. I take care of Veronica during the day.

W: And your wife goes out to work?

M: Yes. Linda is the manager at Grosston Bank.

W: What do you do?

M: I'm a nurse. I work at night at the City Hospital.

W: Oh! Tell me how you share the housework.

M: Well, I cook dinner every night. I kind of enjoy cooking. We seldom go to the restaurants.

W: And what does Linda do?

M: Oh, she washes all the clothes on Saturday morning while I clean the house. She does the shopping too.  We relax and have fun on Sunday.

Text 9

M: Miranda, let's talk about some of my ideas for improving the office. Do you have time now?

W: Yes, I am free until lunch. Let's go ahead now.

M: Great. So, I think that there is not enough natural light. Bright ceiling lights can hurt our eyes over time.

W: What do you suggest?

M: I suggest we remove 50 of the light bulbs and add enough floor lamps to make the lighting in the room soft.

W: OK, we can do that. What else would you like to change?

M: The color of the walls. They are red and yellow at the moment. We should paint the walls a more relaxing color like light blue or dark green to help our workers be in a better mood.

W: Very well. But to paint the entire office, we will need two to three days. We can't paint during working hours.

M: We can paint it during the coming winter holiday.

W: That sounds good. Do you have any more suggestions? I need to get going.

M: Yes, I do. But I can wait next time. How about tomorrow?

W: All right. I will come to find you then.

Text 10

W:When I was visiting Australia a few weeks ago, I was eager to learn to surf. I booked a group of surfing lessons when I was in Byron Bay, which is a really popular place for professional surfers to go and catch some waves!

We started off with a warm-up by doing some stretches and going for a jog along the beach, and then we all lay down on our surfboards on the sand and practiced jumping up to the standing position. After a couple of practices, we were ready to go out into the sea and try out surfing on the water. I have to admit surfing is much harder than it looks. I failed a couple of times when attempting to stand up but then one of the instructors came to help me and held my board steady.

Finally I learned it and by the end of the lesson I managed to stand up on the board by myself. It was a wonderful feeling and I can't wait to try it again in the UK!
