Text 1

W: Did you see the film on Wednesday?

M: No, I went on Thursday night. Did you, on Wednesday?

W: I was going to watch it, but could not make it. I think I'll go on Saturday night.

Text 2

M: The coat you tried on had a good style and the price was not high.

W: But they didn't have it in my size.

Text 3

M: I don't feel very good. I've got a burning feeling in my stomach.

W: Oh, poor Andy! Let's go to see a doctor immediately.

M: Maybe it will go away if I eat a hot dog.

W: No more junk food. Breakfast is ready in the kitchen. I'll get it for you soon.

Text 4

M: What do you think of cloning?

W: Though it's a great invention, it may have some side-effects if it's not properly handled.

Text 5

M: What part of your work earns you the most?

W: Well, it used to be my recordings but that side has dropped a bit. And there is never much money from the concerts. I have done some TV advertisements recently, and they have brought in a big fortune.

Text 6

W: How was the football today, Charlie?

M: Good. We had a match with Swindon School. I scored.

W: Well done! Is Tom's leg better? Could he play today?

M: Yes. His leg is back to normal. He didn't score but he helped us add two of our other goals.

W: That's good!

M: Yes. Everyone thought he'd be quite slow as he hadn't played for quite a while, but he wasn't at all.

Text 7

W: Wow, another year is over. Do you have any New Year plans?

M: Yeah, I want to go to China. My friend Jim went there last year and visited many places of interest. But what I want to do is learn its culture and its language, because it's a country with a long history, so I will be there for the next two years. What about you? What's your plan?

W: I want to meet some new people and do something fun.

M: Like what?

W: I don't know. Maybe I need a hobby.

M: Well, what do you like to do?

W: I love to dance. I'd like to learn modern dance.

M: Then you should take a class.

W: Good idea. By doing this, I can do something fun as well as meeting other people.

Text 8

M: Is there any place in the hotel for amusement?

W: You can go to the garden for jogging or bike-riding. It is very relaxing there. And a beautiful lake is being built and will be finished next year.

M: That sounds good. But is the garden the only place to go now?

W: No, sir. There is an amusement center on the ground floor. You can play golf and table tennis, and go bowling. The area is big enough for 5 people to play PK games.

M: Is there a place where we can listen to some music?

W: Yes, sir. There is a music teahouse. You can enjoy both classical music and modern music, while having some Chinese tea or other drinks.

M: Oh, great. Thank you very much.

W: It's my pleasure.

Text 9

W: We will both start our new jobs next month, and we have to look for an apartment.

M: Hey, darling. I hadn't realized it was so close already. What kind of place would you like?

W: Well, it's too late to think about buying a house somewhere. We'll have to rent an apartment first. It should be near the bus stop or a subway station.

M: What about the size?

W: Well, a two-bedroom place is enough for us and our baby.

M: It won't be expensive. What kind of price do you think we can afford?

W: Oh, about six hundred dollars. It doesn't have to be equipped with furniture. We have our own furniture. The apartment should not be in the city center. I like quietness.

M: Yeah, I agree. I'd like the apartment to be near a park, so we can go running outdoors as usual.

W: Well, we can look for the information on the Internet or call Lily. She knows a lot about houses.

M: I prefer the newspaper. We can take a look in the For Rent section.

W: Good idea. Let's hope we can find something good!

Text 10

M: Hi, everyone. Welcome to the broadcast for the week. Well, what a wonderful Monday we had in Melbourne today! There was sunshine right across the city. The temperature was 31 degrees and light wind blew from the west and northwest, giving all those who were outside something to smile about. There was no rainfall recorded anywhere in Melbourne today, but that's not going to last. Looking at the forecast for the rest of the week, it's going to get a bit rough. There's some cloud cover moving from the west at noon and it should reach us by late afternoon tomorrow. But tomorrow should still be warm, with a top temperature of 27 degrees. On Wednesday that storm will be right on top of us and you can expect some showers and possible thunderstorms starting in the early hours of the morning. Rain should continue through to Friday, with a high temperature of 26 degrees, and the weather will begin clearing on Saturday, when the temperature will rise to 29 degrees. It's also a fine day on Sunday with the temperature rising to 30 degrees.
