M: Hi, can I order a plate of pancakes?
W:I'm sorry, sir, but we are all out of pancakes. We always sell out by noon, but we do have eggs and toast, though.
Text 2
M:Hello, I want to go on holiday at the seaside this weekend. Can you make a reservation for me?
W: Yes, certainly. Just tell me your name and phone number.
Text 3
M: Mom, I'd like to learn how to play an instrument. What should I play?
W: Why don't you try the guitar? We can easily buy one for you. A piano would sound nice but is too expensive.
Text 4
M: What are you thinking right now, Lucy?
W:Can't you see? I'm thinking that if you were quiet, I could get my homework done. But it is difficult for me to concentrate on it since you are always talking.
Text 5
M: What will Greg do when he finishes his Spanish course?
W: He said he would go to Colombia for a while.
M: That's a good idea. He'll be able to practice the language.
W: Yes, he won't have anyone to help him so he will have to speak Spanish.
Text 6
M: I found an abandoned cat beside the road. I think we should bring it home with us.
W: Are you sure? We already have two cats and one dog. We can't take care of too many animals. We won't have enough money to feed them or have room for them.
M: I know. But the sad little cat is all alone and scared. It's very small. It's just a kitten. It will die if we don't save it.
W: Okay, okay. Let's go get it. I want it to survive. I hate seeing animals in pain. We'll take care of it somehow.

W: Look at this shirt! Isn't it splendid?
M: Yes. It looks like it was made of high-quality material. It must have been expensive!
W: Actually, it wasn't! I got a great deal because I bought it online.
M: Really? I've only done it because it was easy, but I thought the prices were the same as those in stores. Can you show me the websites you use?
W: You just need to look for special sales! It's fun to look for the best deals.I get emails all the time for about 10% off or 20% off at many different websites. This shirt was 50% off its original price! It was normally $100.
M: Wow, thanks for the advice! I'm going to start shopping online more.
Text 8
M: I'm worried about our trip to Paris next week.
W: Why?
M: There has been heavy rain that has lifted the Seine River to about 20 feet, its highest level since 1982. It actually reached 26.2 feet in 1910, if you can believe it. It's normally only 5 feet high. Workers have said that the river won't go back to its original level for another week or two.
W: Do you think the grounds beneath the Eiffel Tower are flooded?
M: They are. I saw a photo of it.
W: We won't even be able to walk around and see the city!
M: I think we can still walk around. We just have to bring rain boots so our feet don't get wet or muddy. Many buildings don't have power, and I read that staff at the Louvre Museum had to move all the artworks to higher floors. It's still closed to visitors.
W: I hope we can at least see the Musée d'Orsay. That's my favorite museum in the world.
M: That's closed, too.
W: Oh no!
Text 9
M: First, I'd like to say "Thank you for having this interview".
W: Actually it's my pleasure.
M: So could you tell me why you come to the US this time?
W: This coming November, I am going to have my concert here. The first stop would be Los Angeles. The second one would be San Francisco and the last one would be New York.
M: OK. Have you prepared for that?
W: Yes, I've been practicing singing different songs while dancing.
M: Do you eat anything special on the day of the concert?
W: Of course. I cannot eat the things that I really like before the performance, such as yogurt and fruit juice. They are too sweet. I can only drink a lot of water that day.
M: That's good. What's your plan for the next five years?
W: Obviously, not taller. I hope that I will be performing for more people, especially here in the US. I hope that in five years, I will be able to reach more people here.

M: Next to me are my three assistants. On the left is Mary and on the right is Gladys. Between them is Daniel. Gladys is in charge of the computer lab and you should see her to reserve time for any of our computers. Daniel is the head of our reference department. He can help you find materials when you're investigating subjects or writing papers. Mary is in charge of keeping all the books and journals organized. This is an important job because if everything wasn't in its proper place, it would be impossible to find the information we need. We're open every day except Sundays and holidays from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, and on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. Sometimes we're open on special hours. For instance, during the family week when your parents are invited to visit the school, we're open every evening. If there are no questions, then Mary, Gladys and Daniel will show you around the facilities and explain everything to you.
