M:What's in this salad? I usually like salad, but if there are tomatoes or carrots in it I can't eat it.

W: There aren't any tomatoes or carrots, just lettuce and cheese.

Text 2

W:What a fantastic reading bar! It offers a wonderful view of the landscape and the decoration is so fashionable. The best coffee is also served.

M: The most appealing part to me is the music played here. It is quiet and pleasing to the ear.

W: I couldn't agree more.

Text 3

M:Make your son do some eye exercises after studying, which would be really good for his sight.

W: Good idea.Do you have any other suggestions?

M: We have a variety of eye drops for tired eyes.Would you like one?

Text 4

W: The picture is well designed.

M: I took it on my vacation last year.

W: Really? I didn't know you are such a great photographer!

Text 5

M: Sorry for calling so late in the day.

W: That's OK.

M: Good. I'm actually calling about my visit. I've just realized I can't make it on Wednesday. Can we move the meeting to Thursday?

W: Yes, the afternoon is free.

Text 6

W:Your new shoes are great! I've actually seen those shoes at Maxine's, but I couldn't afford $200 for them at the moment.

M: Um,$200?

W: Yes, that's the price they are advertising it at. I am hoping they can give me a 20% discount.

M: Oh, I bought them for $245 at Helen's. I didn't know I could get them cheaper somewhere else.

W: Of course! Everything at Helen's is overpriced, and they sell things that you can find at almost every other store!

Text 7

W:Tom,have you finished your homework yet?

M: Of course. I didn't go to bed until I finished it last night. My sister was listening to a radio program and my brother was practicing the piano. It was really noisy.

W: Well done. You are very hard-working and I hope you can stick to that.

M: Thank you. By the way, Mrs. Brom, can you spare some time now?

W: Of course. What's up?

M: I hope you can help me with some math problems.

W: No problem. This way please.

Text 8

W: So what brings you to Egypt?

M:I'm going to a conference: the Ninth International Conference for English Teachers. It's at Benha University. Well, can you tell me how to get there?

W: The university? It's a bit far, about 30 minutes' walk. It only takes 8 or 10 minutes by bus. The bus leaves right outside the hotel.

M: Can I go there by taxi?

W: Yes. And we can call a taxi for you from our hotel. By the way, are you an English teacher?

M: No, I'm not. I mean, I was, but now I am working for a publishing company.

W: What books are you selling?

M: Actually, I'm not selling books. I'm selling educational CDs.

W: Do you have one of your CDs that you could show me?

M: I'd like to show you some CDs of my company, but I didn't bring any one with me.

Text 9

W:Mike, the New Year is coming soon. What presents shall we buy for the children?

M: What about a bike for John? He's been asking for one for a long time.

W: But I don't think he's old enough to ride a bike to school. Let's buy him a football instead, all right?

M: OK. What shall we buy for Jane?

W: Well, she likes music very much. Shall we buy her a guitar?

M: I think an iPad will be better. It can help her learn Chinese.

W: Then let's buy one for her. Now,what about little Jack?

M: Well,he's still a young baby. I think a toy car is best for him.

W: I couldn't agree more. When shall we go and buy the presents?

M: Well, today is Saturday, but it's already evening. I think it's too late to go to the shopping center. Let's go shopping tomorrow afternoon after we see the film.

W: OK. But we mustn't let the children know about the presents before the New Year.

M: I'm sure they won't know. I'll take them to McDonald's to eat something while you are doing the shopping.

W: They must be very happy, since they love McDonald's so much.

Text 10

M:We interrupt this show for an urgent weather report. Heavy snow has caused major damage in our area over the weekend. Police are warning drivers that they should avoid using their vehicles, as road conditions are expected to be very dangerous. About three inches of snow are expected to fall on Friday evening. That is on top of the two inches that fell the previous day. Roads are also particularly risky because the rain which fell on Wednesday has turned into ice. High winds may cause the snow to block many routes. The A620 and A625 roads have already been closed by police. The A720 road is still open but drivers are being advised to avoid it if possible. Because of an accident earlier today there, it was closed for three hours, but it has now cleared. Ambulances had been unable to reach a man trapped in his car at the scene. A rescue helicopter pulled him out and transported him to the emergency department. The hospital later said his condition was improving. Looking ahead, the snow will be with us for the next three days but we can look forward to warmer weather by the middle of next week.
