M: Karen, I heard you took a trip to England last week. Did you find anything interesting there?
W: Yes. I found people there really liked getting in line. There were queues wherever I went. And I often had to wait in line, too.
M: Did you try to cut in line?
W: I wanted to, but I didn’t. Seeing everyone else waiting in line patiently, I chose to wait patiently, too. But I did find that the English have a good sense of humor. When they were waiting in line, they waited with good humor.
M: I guess it’s their culture. So when did you get back to the US? Last weekend?
W: No. My plane took off last Sunday night.

W: Mike, I heard you’re going to pay a visit to Cuba. Are you going to visit friends there?
M: No. I don’t have any friends or relatives there. My friends Mark and Henry suggested we visit Playa Jibacoa there. I’m a great beach lover, so I agreed to go there with them.
W: Is it a popular beach in Cuba?
M: I don’t think so. Actually not many tourists know about Playa Jibacoa yet. And that’s why we decided to go there. We don’t want to visit a crowded beach.
W: So how can you get to the beach?
M: There are no public buses or trains that go there. So after getting to Havana, we’ll drive there.
W: So how many days will you spend there?
M: We’ll get there on the morning of April 9 and leave on the afternoon of April 14.

M: Jennifer, had you studied writing before you became a writer?
W: Yes. I did a unit called “The Art of Writing” as part of my undergraduate degree at Moi University. But it was not really enough to prepare one to be a writer.
M: So what else helped you become a writer?
W: I think studying literature in university was helpful. As a literature student, I learned about writing by experiencing writing first hand. Reading helped too. After getting my PhD, I became a university lecturer. I read widely about creative writing.
M: Did you read in order to become a writer?
W: Not really. I just wanted to become a better literature teacher. Later I ended up teaching a course on creative writing at Daystar University. All of these experiences helped me become a creative writer.
M: So do you have a lot of time to write now?
W: Not really. Now I’ve got a family to take care of. But Henry is very supportive. He sometimes takes our kids out so that I can write.

W: Do you know about the history of the Egyptian coastal city of Alexandria?
M: Yes. I know something about it. Alexander the Great established the city more than 2, 000 years ago.
W: It’s a really old city.
M: You can say so. It has survived invasions, fires and earthquakes in the past 2, 000 years. But now Alexandria faces severe flooding from rising waters blamed on climate change.
W: That’s really bad. It’s such an important city.
M: Yes. It is Egypt’s second largest city, with more than 5 million people. It is also an important port and home to about 40 percent of Egypt’s industrial activity. But the city is surrounded on three sides by the Mediterranean Sea and sits next to a lake. With climate change, it now is often stricken by floods.
W: I heard it experienced a natural disaster in 2015.
M: That’s true. Large parts of the city were flooded. At least six people were killed in the flooding, which also destroyed many homes.
W: I’m afraid many coastal cities will disappear in the future.
M: I agree. But it’s not too late yet.
W: What do you mean?
M: I mean humans can still save the cities by preventing climate change. Now I often encourage my students to help protect Earth in class.

W: Buy a Seacrest Home, and you'll be living in comfort! You’ll have the convenience and security of a high-end apartment complex in the city. At the same time, the large space will make it feel like a house in the country. We have a full range of services to offer you — from a 24-hour front desk attendant to a professional gym. We have excellent drivers available for hire service, which people with busy work schedules especially use and appreciate. And just like our name indicates, our buildings are built on an area close to the sea. Now, our apartments are mainly designed for the new rich class. They are filled with comforts and devices that appeal to a younger generation. They also come with a significant price mark. You can find out about prices and visit a sample home next month at our first open house of the season. It will be held on the weekend of April 1 to 2. We will also be showing individual apartments every other weekend till the end of May. Small dishes of food and drinks will be served during each open house event, and plenty of our staff members will be there to answer questions. Our homes tend to sell quickly, so be prepared to pay a deposit if you want to buy. We accept personal checks, as well as Alipay.
