M: Follow the street to the first crossing. It is about five minutes’ walk. Then turn left and keep walking for about fifteen minutes. You’ll see it there. It’s between a hotel and a post office.

M: Okay. I’ll pay the charges.
W: All right. Let me check our repairmen’s schedules. Oh, the day after tomorrow, that’s Tuesday. We can send a repairman to your house. And we’ll call you ahead. What is your phone number?

W: Omikoshi.
M: Omikoshi?
W: Yes. Do you know the word?
M: I don’t think so. What is it?
W: Ah, it’s really difficult for me to explain in English, but Omikoshi looks like a big colorful box. Many adult people try to carry it together, and it’s used to celebrate a harvest.
M: That’s interesting. What about foods during the days?
W: We can see kinds of small shops along the street and we can buy authentic Japanese foods, like watagashi. It’s a kind of sweet candy, and the color is always white.

W: Hi, Eric. I want to ask you a favor. I want to rent an apartment here in Beijing, but I don’t know the normal practice. Could you give me some advice?
M: Sure, why don’t you tell me what you need, such as how big you want your apartment to be, where you want to live, and what you like to do? Then I can figure out which apartment is the most suitable for you.
W: I want to live in Haidian District, because I want to live close to my school. I like running and I like a quiet apartment where I can study and read.
M: Well, I can introduce a place to rent near your school to you. It’s with two rooms as well as a big kitchen, where you can cook by yourself. The apartment is on the 7th floor, so it is very quiet.
W: That sounds great!
M: You can also go to the school’s sports field to take exercise, and if you’re lucky you might make some Chinese friends there. We can take a look at it together this afternoon.
W: Thank you so much. It’s very kind of you.
M: Not at all. Oh, it’s almost 10 o’clock. I must go and have my literature class. Talk to you later. Bye.
W: OK, bye!

Text 10
When tourists are walking in London, they see all the usual things: red buses, black taxis and red telephone boxes. Wait a minute! Is that a green telephone box?
The answer is "yes". But when you look through the window of this green phone box, you find it is different. Nobody is dialling a number, having a conversation or hanging the phone up. In fact, there isn’t a phone inside — it’s a place to charge your mobile phone. This new idea is called the "Solarbox". People can come here and charge their mobile phone batteries. The Solarbox uses solar power and it only needs three hours of sun every day.
The box is the work of two undergraduates. Why were they interested in the idea of the Solarbox? Firstly, people have their own mobile phones and modern phone batteries often need charging. And then, workers in London need a place to charge their phones when they are away from their homes or offices. The Solarbox is popular with different people because they think it’s easy to find and use.
