M: How many people showed up for the meeting yesterday? 25 or more than that?

W: Well, 50 were expected to come, but the actual number was double that amount.





M: Lisa, the taxi is waiting outside.

W: Wait a minute. I’m going to get some food to take with us. I don’t like the meals served on the train.





M: Would you like to go to a ball game this evening or have dinner in a restaurant?

W: To tell the truth, I have to stay at home because I’m expecting an important phone call.





M: According to Professor Thompson, language develops from all forms into newer ones.

W: Yes. We can find new words and expressions in English. For example, Chinese phrase “add oil” has been added to the Oxford English Dictionary.





W: Lovely day, isn’t it?

M: Yes, it’s wonderful. Does it rain quite often in this city?

W: Not really in this season. Usually it rains a lot in spring and summer. Autumn is the best season     here.

W: Do you have any job experience?

M: Only a little. Last year I helped out in my father’s office every Wednesday and I worked in a recording studio every Friday.

W: That’s good. We have two stores. A very busy one is in the city center. And the other one is near the airport with fewer customers, and you will most likely do jobs such as carrying big boxes and cleaning.

M: Well, I want to work near the airport. It’s near my house.

W: Good. Then could you start next Monday or Wednesday?

M: Would next Tuesday be all right? I will have an exam on Monday and have to see my doctor on Wednesday.

W: OK. See you then.

M: Central Park Station?

W: Yes. When you leave the station, walk east. You’ll find a small park on your left. Keep on walking until you see a post office. The bank is just behind it.

Good morning, everyone! Let’s have a look at what we’ve got for you today on TV 31. We start the day at 7 am with cartoons. These go on until 9 am when we have a film called Wonder Park. Then from 10:30 am to 12 noon, there’s the news. And that’s followed by sports at 1 pm. This afternoon, you can watch the football match between Italy and Russia. The winner of that match will go on to play with France or Germany in the final next week. Football is followed by tennis at 4 pm. Let’s hope Brown James has got better after yesterday’s fall. At 5 pm, we’ll bring you the end of the Round Britain Cycle Race. At 6 pm, it’s time for our new programme. We will show pictures of people who were related to important things in a certain year. Then four teams guess which year that was.
