W: What was that? Could you say that again, please? This bus is really noisy.
M: I said my battery is about to die! I’ll call you back using Ben’s phone!
W: You seem to be in a hurry. Go ahead of me in line to pay for your food.
M: Thanks! I’m running late for work and don’t have much time to wait.
M: Mrs. Jenkins is such a nice teacher. She always has good advice, and has such a good sense of humor.
W: I wish Mrs. Dunkirk were like that. She’s strict, and her assignments are hard.
W: So, Professor Williams, we have to interview someone about the event? What’s the point of that?
M: Reading textbooks and surfing the Internet are not the only ways to get information. Sometimes people are just as good, if not better.
W: Hello. Do you like this jewelry? I made most of these items myself. And they’re on special sale these days. You can have the green at 10% off the regular price of£30.
M: It’s nice, but still too expensive. Can you give me a 20% discount?
W: That’s a deal.

W: It’s just like old times. The place looks really different.
M: They gave it a new look. What do you think?
W: The black and white floor is really nice. But I miss the piano by the front entrance.
M: The piano is still here. They got it repaired and moved it into the dining room. There’s a jazz performance every Saturday now.
W: Oh, cool! We’ll have to come back. I have to say I love the old design, with the red walls. And live music is a great addition.
M: Let’s see if the food is just as good now as it was then. What are you going to order?
W: Bill, please. You annoyed the people behind us!
M: I couldn’t help it! These actors are so funny! I haven’t laughed this hard for a long time.
W: During the second half, you’ll need to be a lot quieter.
M: OK. Hey, what’s wrong? Were you crying?
W: I didn’t find that scene funny. It reminded me of a quarrel with my friend Sarah on a trip to France. I haven’t spoken to Sarah since then. It was a lot like what we just saw.
M: The disagreement we saw on stage was full of humor and affection. I can see you really care about Sarah. You should give her a call. You’re as stubborn as Dad!
W: Thanks for coming to the studio today, Mr. Larson. Why don’t you tell me about your last position?
M: Well, I started working at Smith Electronics in Chicago right after I graduated from college. I was in the sales department, and even though I was good at it, I wasn’t really happy. After one year, I was moved to the HR department.
W: Was that a better fit?
M: Yes. I prefer talking to people face-to-face, and I enjoy solving problems. I did quite well in that position.
W: So, why did you leave?
M: I had been working at Smith for four years straight. Then I wanted to take some time off, so I went to Paris. My three-week vacation turned into a two-year stay!
W: Wow! What made you come back to the United States? And why is it a good time for you to join Branson Labs?
M: When my father started Branson Labs here in Los Angeles twenty years ago, he wanted to pass it down to me. At my graduation dinner, I promised him that I would take over it when the time was right. I’m finally ready to make that promise good.
W: I heard your brother just got accepted into Princeton University. That’s amazing! Are you going to do something special for him?
M: Yeah. My family are going to take a vacation together next month.
W: That sounds fun. That reminds me. What do you think we should do for our math teacher Mr. Rogers? He is retiring at the end of the school year.
M: Oh yeah. I heard about that. He’s had a long career. I’d be happy to help put something together.
W: Some of the students are talking about making a calendar with pictures of us inside.
M: I’m sure he will love it! When should we get started?
W: Not until after the final exams. Next year, I should say. These first few months of school are always super stressful.
M: OK. My uncle owns a print shop, so he might be able to help us. I’ll talk to him when I see him next week.
W: Great. I’ve already spoken with Mrs. Rogers. She said we can have the party at their house, and she'll also get in touch with her husband’s friends for us.
M: You know what? He’d be pretty proud to know how organized we are.
W: You said it!
M:Good morning everyone and welcome to the Museum of Natural History. I’m Joe Brown. Before you take a look around, let me tell you some of the things we have here for you.
Here in the Entrance hall, you can see some wonderful paintings of flowers and plants from all over the world. Upstairs on the left is our famous animal exhibition. You can see the models of your favorite dinosaurs and animals such as the dodo. On the right, there is a small theatre where you can watch a 45-minute film about what our planet looked like millions of years ago. I advise all of you to watch it. And don’t forget to visit our shop before you leave. There are some wonderful models of animals and you can buy T-shirts, postcards and lots more! You can also buy a guidebook in the shop and that costs just one pound!
We’ll close at 5:50 p.m., so you’ve got lots of time to enjoy yourselves. Now without further delay, let’s go.
