W: So where are you from?
M: I’m from France. You’re from China, aren’t you?
W: Well, Denmark, actually.
M: For such a small apartment, I have to pay you 500 pounds a month. Don’t you think it costs too much?
W: Well, but it’s a nice apartment with modern furniture. It's convenient for your school. And the rent includes electricity fees.
W: You must be very busy these days. I heard you are responsible for the conference arrangements this time.
M: That’s for sure. I am up to my ears in work.
W: John, what does the forecast look like for our weekend travel?
M: I’m afraid we’ll go through a rough weekend. There is a storm system moving through the East Coast. It will be raining all day tomorrow, and there will be high winds this evening.
M: Hello, is there a flight leaving for London at 11:00?
W: None round that time. But there are flights leaving at 10:20 and 11:45.
M: All right, I’ll take the earlier one.

W: Mark, I know you like biking. Have you ever gone long-distance biking?
M: No, I've done a few short biking trips that lasted only one day and long jogging exercise. My parents did long biking trips. I'm planning to join them next time.
W: Oh, sounds great. You must need to spend quite some time preparing for the trip.
M: Yeah, it can take several months.
W: I'm sure bikers use lots of energy.
M: Sure. My parents once went on their trip for seven months, through wilderness areas. Every six days or so, when they got into a town, they each could eat a horse.
W: Wow, that sounds like a great adventure!
听下面一段对话,回答第8至第10三个小题。现在你有15秒钟的时间阅读这三个小题。
W: Hello, Larry. Kate speaking.
M: Good evening, Kate.
W: Larry, I’m very sorry to call you so late, but I didn’t know who else to ask for help.
M: Oh, don’t worry — I was just reading a novel to kill time. You know, I don’t like playing games or watching TV. What’s happened? You sound some frightened.
W: Yeah, we went to the countryside for the weekend, and our car got crashed on the way home. Bob is in hospital now. He needs an operation, but we don’t have enough money to pay for it at present. Could you do us a favor?
M: Oh my, certainly! Tell me the name of the hospital; I will get there as soon as possible.
听下面一段对话,回答第11至第13三个小题。现在你有15秒钟的时间阅读这三个小题。
M: I just received a phone call for an interview Thursday.
W: Congratulations!
M: Thank you, but I'm nervous. It's the day after tomorrow. I feel pressed for time, and I don't know what to do.
W: Well, you should make full preparations so that you can give proper responses.
M: Yeah, besides my personal introduction, what else should I prepare?
W: Collect as much information about the company and the position you're applying for as you can. The interviewers will notice your enthusiasm for the job.
M: Then what should I do when I'm being interviewed?
W: Smile at the interviewers and look them in their eyes while trying to persuade them to select you. Try to act naturally. Otherwise, do arrive on schedule.
M: Are there any other things I should pay attention to?
W: Yeah, wear formal clothing for your interview, which will leave interviewers with a favorable first impression.
M: That totally makes sense. I need to go to the mall to buy some dress this afternoon.
听下面一段对话,回答第14至第16三个小题。现在你有15秒钟的时间阅读这三个小题。
W: Mr. Wilson, it’s nice to have you with us this evening.
M: Well, I’m glad to be on the program to introduce my hometown.
W: OK, let’s begin. Does Bergen have a long history?
M: Yes, it does. Bergen was founded by King Olav Kyrre in 1070, and it had been Norway’s capital before 1299. Until the 1830s, Bergen was the biggest city in Norway.
W: Well, we all know fishing and oil industries are important parts in Bergen’s economy. What else major industries are there in Bergen?
M: Trade and traveling by sea also play an important role. Many tourists visit the city every year.
W: Why are tourists so interested in Bergen?
M: It is famous for its unusual beauty of the sea and mountains and old wooden buildings. You have to experience it for yourself. The city is really worth touring around on foot. You will see small wooden houses and flowers everywhere.
W: Yeah. Slowly walking around old streets where people have lived for centuries is like a fairy tale.
听下面一段独白,回答第17至第20四个小题。现在你有20秒钟的时间阅读这四个小题。
People in some countries keep things very simple at breakfast — just coffee or tea and some sort of bread. In Italy, breakfast is often a cup of coffee with milk and a bread roll with jam. In Tanzania, a common breakfast is a cup of tea with bread or maybe a thin pancake. People in Kenya may start their day with fruit, a type of bread called flatbread and a cup of hot tea. And in France, black coffee with a loaf of bread, plain or filled with chocolate, is a common breakfast. Several websites say that in Brazil, breakfast is not a big deal. That honor goes to lunch. To start their day, Brazilians often drink coffee with milk — whether adults or children. With that, they may simply have a slice of toasted French bread. The papaya is a very common breakfast fruit. But any seasonal fruit is often a part of breakfast. Or instead, many Brazilians may simply eat a lightly-sweet cake. There are simply some breakfast dishes from around the world. We have only scratched the surface. Or maybe we got some things wrong.
