W: Writing papers in the room makes everybody tired out.

M: Yeah, it does. That’s why I came here to listen to some music.





M: I heard that you got a pay raise. Congratulations!

W: Oh, you must have mistaken me for Jenny. She got a pay raise, though I was supposed to get one, too.





W: Would you like to join us for the picnic on Sunday?

M: Much to my regret, I’ll have to take care of my cousin Steven in the hospital.





M: So kind of you to invite me, Mrs. Green.

W: It’s a great honor that you could come, Mr. Smith. Would you please take a seat at the head of the table? Please order your favorites.





M: I feel worried about my interview. Which tie should I wear? Please give me some advice. How about the blue one?

W: You are expecting to fail this time.

M: Excuse me, madam. Are there plane tickets to Detroit the day after tomorrow, I mean, this Friday?

W: Just a moment, sir. Well, sorry, there aren’t any direct flights available that day.

M: How about Saturday then?

W: Yes, there are. How would you like to go, first class or coach?

M: Coach would be fine. What’s the fare?

W: It is 260 dollars one ticket.

M: When will the flight put me there?

W: At six on Sunday morning.

M: All right, I’ll take three. Thank you. What’s the flight number?

W: It is 301 at Gate Two.

M: Thank you very much! She’ll love it. Let me know your arrival time and my driver will pick you up at the airport.

W: Oh, Ryan! It’s a really expensive course. I’m not sure we can afford to pay for it again.

M: I know. I’m sorry. I’ll talk to the teacher and retake it. I promise to do well in the next exam.

M: Have you ever been to the Hard Rock Café?

W: No. What is it?

M: It’s a rock and roll-themed restaurant chain, with the first one founded in London. Now many cities over the world have the restaurants. There’s one in San Francisco. I was thinking about checking it out. Would you like to join me?

W: Sure, that sounds fun. Could you tell me more?

M: Yeah. It was built in 1971. Since 2007, the headquarters has been in Florida. And it didn’t start to expand worldwide until 1982.

W: Interesting. Actually, come to think of it — I think I passed by one when I was traveling in Tokyo. I guess they really are all over the world!

M: Yes. I was reading about it, and there are 191 locations all over the world, in 59 different countries.

W: Wow! That’s amazing.

M: Maybe we can go this weekend.

W: I’m working this weekend, but I have a few days free next week.  

M: Okay, sounds good. I’ll call and see if I can make a reservation tomorrow.

W: Dear Jennifer,

I’ve got great news! My parents gave me a trip to New Zealand as a graduation gift. How fantastic that is! I’m so excited and as I know that you’ve already been there with your uncle, George, I need some help from you.

I’m completely free to choose the date of the trip. I’m going to fly to Australia and I’ll be spending a couple of days in Sydney. Then I’m leaving for Wellington, New Zealand by water. I’m going to stay there for a couple of days — you know my aunt Cathy lives there, don’t you? After Wellington, I’m planning to go to Queenstown which is called the "adventure capital of the world". I wonder why, though. Anyhow, I’m so excited but I need to plan the trip well to get the most out of it.

I am wondering what time of the year would be best for my trip. Also, I’m not really sure where to stay. Can you recommend a place which isn’t too expensive and where I can meet other young people?
