M: For a long time, people have been burying their garbage. Unfortunately, there is less and less empty land that can be used as garbage dumps in our planet today, yet more and more garbage is being produced each year. How should we manage our garbage? Do we have enough energy sources to meet our future energy needs? These are two of the most important questions in the modern world, and many people are trying to find the answers. Some people think that we might be able to solve both problems at the same time. They suggest that garbage should be used as an energy source. For example, some cities in the United States have been burning garbage to create fuel for years. But studies have shown that it is not a good idea. Burning garbage for energy causes many serious problems. Garbage that burns easily, such as plastics and paper, must be separated from metals, glass, and other materials that do not burn easily. This separation process is very costly and can’t be done in most places. Another huge problem with burning garbage is air pollution.
