W: It was really good. I laughed a lot. Other people couldnt help laughing, too. It really helped me relax. You should have gone to watch it with us.

M: I really wanted to, but I had a babysitting job last night. The Smiths went to the department store to do some shopping, and they asked me to take care of their son, Mike, for a few hours.

W: Did you get paid?

M: Yes. I was paid 14 dollars an hour and I received 42 dollars last night. But it wasnt easy work. Mike cried a few times. I had to try different tricks to keep him entertained.

W: I bet you havent finished your homework yet.

M: Not yet. How about you?

W: Me, either. I guess we can do it together this afternoon. I need some help from you.停顿  00′02″

W: Henry, I need your advice on my job application letter.

M: OK. Let me see... Well, in Britain, a photo is not expected. Its unnecessary to include your hobbies as well, because they have nothing to do with the job youre applying for. I cant see here that youve got a driving license.

W: I didnt mention it because almost everyone here at my age has one. Do I need to put it in my letter?

M: Yes. And youre fluent in Chinese, right?

W: Yes. I studied in Nanjing for almost two years as an exchange student. My spoken Chinese is pretty good. I know about 2,000 Chinese characters. I picked up some French while I was teaching Japanese in Paris, but Im hardly fluent in it.

[HJ3.3mm]M: So lets include the three languages as your skills. Your educational background in Japan is fine, and so is being a teacher in Paris. Why didnt you mention that you worked for your uncle before?

W: I only worked for a month when his office assistant was away. I did photocopying and typing mostly. But Im not very good at typing. I was too ashamed to include it.

W: School gardening has become very popular recently, with parents and teachers saying the hands-on lessons can be used to teach many subjects. Finding the money to keep a school garden going can be tough. Some experts and teachers, however, are finding creative ways to make it work. Susan Hobart is a retired elementary school teacher. She manages the schools large garden with 12 raised beds. She said that the gardens "help calm the kids and give them a whole different perspective they wouldnt have just sitting at desks". Toby Adams directs the New York Botanical Gardens Edible Academy, where schoolchildren learn about growing food. He said that school gardens can teach lessons in health, science, social studies, and even arts classes. "For schools without space for even a small garden, turning to local botanical gardens and parks can sometimes be the answer," Adams said. Ron Finley supports the act of teaching city kids about seeds and growing, and has set up a non-profit project called  Ron Finley Project. Finley remembers being amazed as a boy when he witnessed how "a seed destroys itself to become food". "Having a garden in a school is just as important as any other education," Finley said. "If kids respect soil, theyll respect themselves and this planet... Gardening is not a hobby but a life skill. I see this as one of the most valuable lessons of humanity."
