W: The watch suits me well and it costs 80 dollars. How do you like it, Jasper?
M: It does have a nice style, Lily, but considering the overall performance of this watch, $40 would be more appropriate.

M: It might rain tomorrow, and I hope our dance competition can go on as planned.
W: It will go smoothly. I heard that if the weather is bad, it will be held in the hall.
M: That's great. Although the playground is more spacious, it's better than canceling.

M: Susan, I suppose you would never be able to guess who came first in the chess match.
W: Was it Tim, or George? Those two are very competitive.
M: You are wrong. The champion was Erik. It is a real surprise. He beat 8 other players, lost only 2 games, and played to no draws.
W: Erik is a lucky dark horse. How about Tim?
M: Well, Tim finished second. He caught a cold, so he wasn't in good condition during the competition.
W: It's a great pity.

W: Can I have a talk with you for a moment, Jack?
M: Of course, Mary. Sit down. What is it?
W: I've decided to leave.
M: Oh, no. Is it because we're moving out of London to Liverpool? The new location is far from here. I know that can be challenging.
W: No. There are other reasons. I want to make a change to my current life.
M: You don't like working here anymore?
W: No, no, it's not that. I really enjoy working with the team. I've been here since I left school, and while it's been great, I feel like I'd love to try something new.
M: I see. Are you thinking of a career change?
W: Not exactly. I want to travel to some special places, like Adelaide of Australia.
M: I see. I understand your decision. Remember, if you ever decide to come back, the door is always open for you.
W: Thank you, Jack. And I've really appreciated your guidance over the years.

W: What are you reading, Adam?
M: A book written by a wildlife biologist, David A.Steen. He shares stories about wild animals that have been successfully reintroduced to an environment after becoming almost extinct.
W: So why did you choose to read such a book? You usually read exciting novels, especially those about detective stories, right?
M: That's true. But occasionally I also read non-fiction such as travel writing. I read this book because I want to learn something from it and do something to help endangered animals.
W: So does the book offer tips on how kids can help?
M: Yes. It says we can be volunteers or start at home. For example, if you have an outside area, you can grow native plants that will be attractive to insects and birds.
W: That sounds like a good idea. There is an empty space in the garden and we can go to plant grasses and flowers there.
M: Good idea. Why don't we share this plan with Dad? I'm sure he'd be interested, and we can make it a family project.

M: It seems that quite a number of restaurants serve foreign food.
W: Yes, American food and French food are popular in China. You can find them in many big cities.
M: I've noticed that. In Italy, we also have cuisines from various countries.
W: Are there any Chinese restaurants in your hometown?
M: Plenty. In fact, Chinese cuisine is very popular with Italians. The meals are very good, and the chefs often combine traditional recipes with local materials.
W: Traditional Chinese cuisines tend to use vegetables and fruit because they're rich in fiber and low in sugar and fat. But there is a trend towards foods high in fat, sugar, and salt. I eat few foods rich in fiber. I think I should change the intake. Balance is essential, don't you think?
M: You're right. Unfortunately, people today, especially the young, eat increasingly more fast food. I've treated many young people who suffer from diseases caused by unhealthy diets. It's important to promote healthier eating habits.
W: Absolutely. I think schools should take action to help young students appreciate the benefits of good nutrition. Cooking classes or lessons on healthy diets in schools will be an effective way.
M: That's indeed true.

W: Welcome to our program of young successful business people. Today, we look at a story of Maria Silvers, the founder of a chain of coffee bars. She was born and grew up in Singapore. Her father, who was a responsible and hardworking factory manager, taught her to pursue her goal firmly, even in the face of challenges, and filled her with a belief in resolution. Maria studied political science at university. After leaving university, she became a teacher. When Maria was 25 years old, she met the biggest challenge ever — her father died, and she went to Sydney for a break. Every morning, she'd go to a coffee bar. When she got back, she realized that there was nothing like those coffee bars. So she decided to give up her job and do something about it. She opened the first coffee bar in Singapore in 1995, and her success was quick. She opened ten more the following year. Now she is proud of her coffee and success and prepares to open eighty more in new areas besides the eighty-five she already has.
