Text 1

M:Good morning, Art Museum. Can I help you?

W: Oh, yes, good morning. I'm interested in your lecture for children and I'd like a little more information, please.

Text 2

W: What is the point of apologizing if you do not correct your mistake?

M: Sorry, madam. I should have dealt with that consumer's complaints first and I promise I will be more careful in the future.

Text 3

M: Oh, why are there so many packages in our living room?

W: I've bought too many things. I have called the express service to send some of them back.

M: Well... dear, try to make a shopping list of your needs next time.

Text 4

W: I cannot believe the weather report. How should there be snow in the middle of September?

M: It is true. Generally we won't have heavy snow until early November. I guess that means our baseball game will be called off.

Text 5

M: Excuse me, but I have to inform you that my wife is so sick that we could not have dinner as planned. So I have to cancel the reservation I made.

W: No problem. Please give me your name, phone number, the number of your reservation and the date of the visit you booked.

Text 6

M: What do you think of this flat?

W: It is not really desirable. The bedroom is so small.

M: Small as it is, it should be enough for us, I think. And the flat is not expensive.

W: But there is no hot water after 10 at night. You know I like to have a hot shower before bed, especially in winter. It feels good.

M: That is true. But I like this flat. It's filled with sunshine during the day. As for the hot shower, maybe you can have it before 10.

W: You are right. We could not find a better flat than this.

Text 7

M:Do you know why I chose this cafe?

W: You like the music here.

M: No.It's because it's a good place to talk.

W: Actually, I don't think it really matters which cafe we go to.

M: Oh, it does. A good cafe makes a huge difference.A quiet and comfortable environment is more suitable for conversation. At least I think so.

W: Hmm, maybe.

M: Well, anyway, let's get something to drink — my treat today. The coffee here is good. What would you like?

W: I'll have a medium white coffee. What about you?

M: I prefer a large black coffee and I like it strong. Anything else?

W: Not at the moment.

Text 8

M: Excuse me, can you help me?

W: Of course. What can I do for you?

M: I'm supposed to write a literature review for my Ancient Chinese Literature. My focus is on poetry of the Tang Dynasty. But I'm having a hard time finding references.

W: Well, we have printed versions of about twenty literature journals in the Reference Section. There's a journal named Poetry and Poets in the Tang Dynasty.

M: Oh, yeah, that suits me, but I still need other sources.

W: You can borrow five books or magazines at a time. But you can't check out academic papers or newspapers; they have to be read within the library.

M: That's great! And are there any other sources?

W: Actually, you can use the library's databases and electronic sources to search for references.

M: I think this might take much time.

W: When you go into the databases and electronic sources, you can read each article's abstract or summary first to decide whether or not you want to read the whole article. This should cut down some time.

M: Thanks. I feel a lot better about this task now.

Text 9

M: Hello, my family and I are staying here for a month or two, and we want to know about the train services.

W: We've got two main train stations in the town. The King Street Station is for local people traveling between work and home and regional services.

M:What about trains to London? I'll need to go there on business.

W: Then you need to go to the Central Station. It's for national services.

M: Have you got any information on different ticket types?

W: Yes. The Standard Ticket doesn't have any restrictions, and can be bought in advance or on the day.

M: Do you provide any discounted tickets?

W: Yes. There are three kinds. A popular one is called Super Save, and it is OK for travel after 8:45 am every day. Then there is the Special Ticket valid for use after 10 am and throughout weekends.

M: What about the third kind of discounted tickets?

W: The third kind is the Advance Ticket and it's the cheapest. You have to buy it at least 6 days ahead. Only a certain number is available and you have to make a seat reservation.

M: Thanks very much for your information.

W: My pleasure. The Station Office is at your service 24/7.

Text 10

M: Welcome to the lovely house and gardens of Rosewood, which was once the home of the famous writer Sebastian George. Now please look at the map I've given you. We're here at the Information Centre. Follow the path marked with the arrow, and the first area you come to is the evergreen garden on your left. As you go further down the path, around the first sharp corner, you will find on your left is the pear garden where different types of pear trees have been planted as well as some lovely flowers. And it is known as Pear Alley, designed by George himself.

Next to this is the greenhouse, where some distinctive plants are grown. Follow the path, and around the second corner, on your right you will see the entrance to the berry garden with a 500-year-old berry tree. Past the berry garden, follow the path until you reach the front of the house. I suggest you spend a good hour wandering around this lovely building. If you would like to purchase any of George's books or other souvenirs, leave the house by the side entrance, and you will find our shop which lies between the house and the garage. Enjoy your visit.
