W: I'll see you at the theater.
M: Better still if we meet in the Red Lion Bar to have a nice little talk.
Text 2
M: Your daughter has won first prize in the contest? How old is she, Mary?
W: Just 13.
M: Really? Two years older than my son.
Text 3
W: What horrible weather! I'm almost roasting in the sun.
M: Yes, I'm thirsty. It's a huge mistake for us to go shopping today. I'd rather stay at home.
W: I didn't expect it would be so hot. The graduation party is tomorrow, so I have to buy a beautiful dress today.
Text 4
M: What did you get for your birthday this year, Catherine?
W: My grandpa gave me a watch, and my sister got me a bicycle. But the coolest gift was from my daddy: a new car!
M: Wow, you're so lucky!
Text 5
W: Where's your computer?
M: I moved it. I was sitting opposite the window and the sun shone in my eyes. So I've moved it into the bedroom.
W: Oh, that will be noisy when you work overtime at night.

M: Hello, is that Anna? This is Colin.
W: Hi, Colin, how are you?
M: I'm OK but I'm looking for a summer holiday job. I'm wondering if you can help.
W: Are you? My dad needs another assistant in his shop.
M: Working with you? Tell me something about the job.
W: Well, it's full-time, five days a week, during my whole summer holiday. I get four pounds fifty an hour, but at first you'll get four pounds. Some people get five pounds.
M: Perhaps I'll go to see your dad. Where is the shop exactly?
W: It's on Pine Street.
M: Thanks, Anna. Goodbye. Wish me luck!
Text 7
W: Guess what! My mother's decided to go back to school.
M: Why?
W: Well, she always loved art but learned business administration at college, because her parents thought it was difficult for an artist to find a job.
M: So she wants to study art now?
W: Yeah, oil painting. It's been her dream for a long time.
M: It's nice to return to learn what she loves. But, Kate, I still think old age should be about peace and relaxation. Having to pass exams sounds a bit too much for her.
W: You know, she retired last year. And I'm leaving for the university soon. She needs to find something interesting to do.
M: Well, maybe, if it's what she wants.
Text 8
M: You've been looking kind of tired lately. What's wrong?
W: I don't feel good. I couldn't sleep well in the past week. You know, I've been working on a big project in our department.
M: You are not alone. Many people say they do not get good sleep at night.
W: Are there any ways to get through this?
M: Yes. First, leave your work and daily responsibilities aside about an hour before going to bed. Second, try to eat in the early evening hours. But do not go to bed very hungry, either. Try small amounts of food with protein or healthy fats like cheese or peanut butter on wholegrain bread. Plus, remember not to drink coffee before bed. Third, keep away from phones.
W: Those are easy to do for me except the last point. You know, I always lose myself in watching short videos on my phone before bed.
M: I think you should get over it. If you are still having a hard time getting a good night's sleep after more than one month of trying, it is time to go to see a doctor.
W: Okay, I will try my best. By the way, I feel very tired now. Can you help me sort out these reports?
M: With my pleasure.

M: Hello! I'm looking for a wedding photographer. My friend John referred me to you. He said you are excellent. He also showed me your website, and I have to say I was really impressed with your work.
W: Oh thanks, that's nice to hear. Could you first tell me the date and location, so I can check my calendar and see if I'm available?
M: Sure! It's July 2nd, and it will be at my parents' house in Halifax.
W: Hmm...it looks like I am unavailable that day. I'm flying away to shoot another wedding. Now, when you checked my website, you must have seen the work of my colleague Jack. Would you be interested in having him shoot your wedding?
M: Oh, that's such a pity. Yes, I've seen his work, and I liked it as well. His work bears a lot of similarities to yours.
W: I'm looking at his schedule and he happens to be available that day.
M: That is really lucky! Would prices be comparable?
W: We charge the same rates.
M: Can I choose which photos I want to print? Is printing included?
W: Of course. You'll receive a link to an online photo gallery of the best 200 photos within 3 weeks. You can pick out the 50 you like.
M: That sounds great.

W: Hello, everyone. Welcome to our program. I'm Jenny Jackson. The weather here in Juárez has become unbearable. With no rain for over a year, the city is suffering from unusually hot weather. Some light showers have been forecast since last month, but all of them have been effective in surrounding areas. Summer has not even started yet, but temperatures have reached 40 degrees centigrade in the past three days. And people have been warned not to go out of their homes — if they walk on foot, at least — between 11 in the morning and 7 in the evening. Little kids and the elderly are the ones who have suffered the most from this extreme heatwave. They must drink water all the time. To help our audience have a better understanding of this extreme weather, we have invited Prof. Torres to our studio this evening.
