W: We finally managed to get tickets for the festival.

M: They're quite good seats so we should be able to see the musicians really well.

W: And they were a bit less expensive than we had expected.

W: Can I help you?

M: Yes,my daughter bought this camera here for my wife's birthday. But it doesn't work. So I'd like to change it for another one.

W: I see. Let me have a look. Well, we'll be happy to change it for you, but I'm afraid we don't have another pink one.

M: Oh, what would I do then?

W: Would you like to choose a different colour? We do have this camera in black and orange.

M: My wife doesn't like either of those colours.

W: If you want, we can order another camera, just like this one. There wouldn't be any extra charge for it.

W: Hello, Roger. It's Laura.

M: Laura! How are you?

W: Fine. How are things with you and Millie?

M: Great...fine...everything's fine. We've got all Millie's sisters round for lunch at the moment.

W: Yes, I can hear you're busy! Listen, I won't keep you.I was just phoning to ask if you and Millie are doing anything next Saturday night. If not, would you like to come for a meal? Patrick and Colin are coming over, and we thought it would be nice if you were there too.

M: We can't, I'm afraid. An old mate of mine from college is getting married in Scotland, and we're going there for the wedding. What a shame! It'd be nice to see you all again.

W: Yeah, it is a shame.

M: Having the doctor tell us to get two and a half hours of exercise a week doesn't really help our motivation much.

W:Don't be discouraged. Now, a new study suggests getting benefits from exercise doesn't have to be that demanding.  Jacob Sattelmair from Harvard University has done a study of how much exercise is needed to lower the risk of heart attacks.

M: Hmm... Interesting.

W: The study showed that people who put in 300 minutes' exercise in a week had a 20% lower risk of death due to heart disease. Still, the people who exercise 150 minutes a week did pretty well, too, lowering their death risk by 14%.

M: And what about the people who exercise half as much as that, like what I probably do? Does that help?

W: Of course. Even 15 minutes would help.

M: I'd like to book a ticket from Paris to Guangzhou next week.

W: Please wait a moment. Yes, we have one flight CZ348 from Paris to Guangzhou on Thursday. It is a direct flight.

M:Oh, no. I have to leave Paris on Saturday. Could you check to see if there are any other airlines available? I don't mind changing flights or a night flight.

W: Just a second, please. Yes, we have one indirect flight. That is AF128 which takes off in Paris and arrives the next day in Beijing, and then it will change from Beijing to Guangzhou by CA132. It is available on Saturday and it is cheaper. Do you want to book them?

M: OK.

W: Today we all know that in Chinese lunar calendar, a year consists of 24 solar terms , but during the Shang Dynasty, people only used four; the Zhou Dynasty, eight. It was not until the time of the Western Han Dynasty that the 24 solar terms were finally decided upon. The 24 solar terms were created by farmers in ancient China to guide farmed activities.  They are based on the sun's position and reflect the changes in climate, natural phenomena, agricultural production, and other aspects of human life, including clothing, food, housing and transportation.

There are many customs about these terms.  For example, on the day of "Dongzhi", people in northern China eat steamed dumplings to keep warm. On the day of "Lixia", or the Beginning of Summer, people drink tea to fight the hot weather.

W :Good morning. Youth Council. Caroline speaking.

M:Hello, this is Roger Brown. I'd like to join the Youth Council, and I was told to give you a call.

W: OK. I'm Caroline, the Youth Council administrator. So do you know much about what the council does,Roger?

M: I've talked to Stephanie I think she's the chair of the council.

W: That's right.

M:And she told me a lot about it:How it's a way for young people to discuss local issues, for example, and make suggestions to the town council. That's what made me interested.

W: Fine. Please let me take down some of your details. First of all, how old are you? You know the council is for young people aged from 13 to 18?

M: Yes. I've just turned 17.

W: And where do you live, Roger?

M: Well, that's a bit complicated. At the moment I'm looking for a flat to rent nearby, so I'm in a hostel from Monday to Friday. And I plan to go to my parents' place at the weekend.

W: Hello, everyone. My name's Andy Johnson. I'm from Worldwide Students Project, a service organization which is aimed to improve international understanding. Now we've got volunteers from 30 different countries working around the world. If you're interested in joining us, I'd like to tell you something about some of the projects.

The first project I'd like to tell you is in Spain. It's a village improvement project. You'd be working with local people, so you need to be fluent in Spanish. The next one is a children's holiday center in Egypt. The work includes painting rooms, gardening and things like that. The final project is for the medical students here. There is a placement in a center for disabled children in India. You'd be providing medical care there.

W: Hey, Alexis. Great to see you! Ready for a bit of skating?

M: Yeah, but I haven't been skating for ages, Martha.

W: Me neither, but I'm a natural when it comes to sports. So, what's in your bag?

M: A few things a hat, gloves, a jacket, the usual skating safety equipment.

W: We're only going around the park.

M: Well, you never know.

W: I don't bother with hats and gloves or that sort of thing. I find it gets in the way.

M: Don't you worry about getting hurt?

W: No, I love adventures. Just the other day, I went climbing on this climbing wall, and I didn't even use safety equipment. If I get hurt, I just ignore the pain.

M: Well, I am not that brave.

W: Hey, come on. Let's get going.

M: Wait a second. I need to get my equipment on.

M: We're glad to have Dr Garfield to talk to us today about dreams.  Let me start by asking the first question. Does everyone dream?

W:It appears that everyone does. Mostly, when people say that they never dream, what they really mean is that they don't remember their dreams or that they don't think their dreams are important. The reason behind is that they might have been made fun of as a child when they first reported their dreams or they were so frightening that they just turned off dreaming completely. Generally, when there were some frightening events and to dream about them was too terrible, people prefer not to dream about them. As long as you're dreaming about it and even if the dream is frightening, your mind is working on it. My personal opinion about what dreams do is that they help us deal with our problems.

M: The English Camp Company organises English Summer Camps for 7-to 14-year-olds. Our fun-loving teachers are well qualified with backgrounds of English teaching.

This summer, we will take a trip to Canada. We will participate in some voluntary work. The most exciting one is that we will have an adventure trip into the green jungle. We will also go for a trip to Italy. You will be impressed by its architecture. We will live and learn together in University of Milan. Our trip to Canada lasts for ten days and costs $1,000 and the one to Italy lasts for a week and costs $800.

We offer a fun and relaxing atmosphere for children to learn English. No one will ever learn a language without making mistakes. At our camps, we don't ask the children to speak English perfectly. We only ask them to do their best. Join our camps for the summer of your life !
