W:Well, I have to say I'm impressed by his lively talk.

W: Look at that! There are commercials after commercials. It's terrible how advertisers are going after kids.

M: Relax. They are just doing their job.

M:Actually, I have butterflies in my stomach. I've never been very confident of addressing a large audience, and I heard that there would be over 300 participants.

W: Uh! What's that smell?

M: I'm working on my latest invention: Turn our old food into an energy source for our car and our house.

W:Why? There are already many such kinds of energy. And none of them smells like this!

 M: Well, I think I'm onto a better alternative.

W: You mean it would be more efficient than wind power or solar energy?

M: No, but I am using food that would otherwise be wasted.

W:I hate to tell you, but some people have found a way to do it without such smell.

W:Wow, that was so entertaining! How come I had never heard of that before?

M:It is an old movie. I had never heard of it before today, either. Obviously, you liked it.

W:It had a great story and awesome acting. Oh, the music was so good!

M:Yes, the music was wonderful. But don't you think there was a lot of unnecessary blood?

W:That's what makes it so realistic, though.

M: Have you seen the tower in front of us?

W: That's the famous Eiffel Tower. It was built in 1889 for the World's Fair.

M: How tall is it?

W: It stands 320 meters high and held the record as the world's tallest structure until 1930.

M: I have heard its name is connected with someone. Is that right?

W: Yes. The tower was named after its designer Gustave Eiffel.

M: He must have been a very talented architectural designer.

W:Hi Jim. How are you doing?

M:Not bad. Very busy, though. I just got off work. I'm about to get something to eat.

W:I hear you've changed your job. Where are you working now?

M:In the ABC Company as a computer programmer. It's a good job but a bit difficult for me now. It requires a lot of work.

W:Well, I'm sure you can manage. Now I'd better let you go to get some food.

M:Yeah. It's great to see you again.

W:I'll go to the office. I've got lots of work to do.

M:Okay. It's nice now that your office is in City Square. You don't have to travel very far at all.

W:But you'll never see how terrible the traffic is in the rush hour.

M:I'm going to the new branch of my company in Newtown tomorrow, but I'm not looking forward to it. It is in a quiet place and my office is much more spacious than the old one,but I have to travel two hours on the train.

W: So, how did you get on at the wildlife park?

M: Well, there's such a lot to see. The only thing was, my daughter was too young and we were not allowed to get close to tigers or feed them. Anyway, I did drive my car through the park and saw wolves and bears wander freely there.

W: Isn't that a bit dangerous?

M: Well, you can't go round on motorbikes or in soft-top cars. This is a strict rule you must obey. And keepers of the park are traveling around in a special car all the time, so they're on hand if there's trouble.

W: Sounds amazing!

W: Professor Brown, which do you prefer, writing or teacher training?

M: Well, I enjoy both very much. In fact, I wouldn't want to give up either. These days most of my time is spent on writing. I go to the university just two half days a week to work with graduate students.

W: What plans do you have for the future?

M: Now that we have completed a textbook and its new CD program, we plan to develop more textbooks for other markets. People sometimes say to me, "You work too hard." The truth is I enjoy what I do, and I don't consider it to be work.

W: What do you like to do that's not education-related?

M: I like playing the piano. I'm fortunate to have been born with the ability to play the piano by ear. If I remember a music piece, I can play it.

W: Helen Perry, one of the greatest actresses of all time, was born in 1847.Her acting life didn't actually have a good start because acting was not a suitable job for a young woman at that time.

Although her first role was very small, she had great trouble learning the dialogue lines. However, this didn't prevent her becoming a successful actress. People said the thing that made her so special was her voice. Unfortunately, her voice got lower and lower when she was in her fifties, which nearly brought her acting life to an end. She finally had a throat operation, which was very important for her and made her go on acting for another 25 years after that.  Helen Perry is famous for several famous plays. But few people know her talent in writing. She also had quite a few degrees. But she said what really pleased her was that the audience loved her.

W:Hello. I'm ringing about the job vacant in your restaurant. I'd like to find out a few more details,if I may.

M: Yes, of course. What would you like to know?

W: Well, what sort of work is it washing up?

M: It's answering the phone.

W: OK. That'd be good. And how many nights a week would it require?

M: Well, we're really only busy at the weekend.

W: So two nights?

M: Three actually, so it would be nine hours a week.

W: That'd be great. It wouldn't influence my studies then and I don't need to ask for leave. I'm a first-year student in university.

M: Okay.If that's the case, you might need a work permit and you can get it from your tutor.

W: OK, thanks.

W: Everyone seems to be on a diet. Have you noticed that?

M: At least everyone is talking about it. A neighbor of mine is on a banana diet. She eats one banana for breakfast, one for lunch, and two for dinner.

W: That would be bad for her health. Has she lost any weight?

M: She doesn't look any thinner. My sister eats eggs to lose weight, only eggs for breakfast, for lunch, and for dinner.

W: That's bad for her heart! Something in eggs is good for losing weight, but too many eggs are bad for the heart.

M: I've also read that. What about a fish diet? One of my cousins eats nothing but fish, even for breakfast!

W:That's too expensive.  The best way to lose weight is to eat less and exercise more. That's why I'm on my way to the tennis court.
