W: Where do we eat tonight?

M: Didn't you cook?

W: I wanted to, but the gas has run out.

M: It's almost 8: 30 p.m. The gas refill is unavailable now. If we still want to eat, we'd better get moving.

M: The bank called me today. They wanted to know if I spent 3, 000 dollars in a furniture shop this morning. Of course, I didn't.

W: Someone must have made a copy of your credit card. You will have to cancel it at once and get a new one.

M: Yes. And hopefully, the bank will cover the damage.

W: Don't be late for the party, Jack!

M: Is Alan's birthday on Saturday?

W: No, it's on Thursday. But most of us have to get up early for work on Friday morning, so he is having the party two days later.

W: Good afternoon, this is Amy Jones speaking. I have an appointment tomorrow at 2: 20 p.m. Is it possible to change it to 3:20 p.m.?

M: Ms. Jones, unfortunately only 3: 40 is available. Does that work for you?

W: OK.

W: If you want to win, you will have to learn to cooperate with the other members of your team.

M: I know, but these guys haven't been practicing as much as I have. I'm afraid if I pass them the ball, they will just drop it and the other team will score.

M: Sorry, I wonder if you would mind moving your car. You are blocking the emergency exit for the theater.

W: I'm sorry, I must have missed the sign. Could you suggest a place to park for free?

M: The sign is here, just behind the tree. If you go around the corner there is lots of parking by the side of the building.

W: Thanks, I'll move my car right away but you should really cut off some branches.

W: Hey, Harry, how was the skiing competition?

M: It was really difficult; I hadn't ridden on the course before. I think it was designed better for snowboarders.

W: Oh, did you practice before you ran?

M: Just enough. The day before the competition, the snow was really good. I practiced for 3 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the evening, too.

W: That doesn't sound too bad. What position did you come in?

M: I got the gold.

W: Wow, you came first! Why aren't you more excited?

M: I am, but I'm just worn out. The flight back was 15 hours.

W: Good afternoon, are you Joshua Taylor? I'm the director here at Sunstrand Technologies.

M: Nice to meet you.

W: Nice to meet you, too. Please have a seat. Now, Mr. Taylor, first of all, why don't you tell me something about yourself, and your work experience?

M: Well, I was born in Chicago, and then my family moved to Dallas when I was five years old. After I graduated from high school, the first thing I did was take a job at a car factory, working for Toyota.

W: OK.

M: Then a year later, um, I wanted to try something else, so I started to go to night school at Harper College and learned computer programming.

W: Did you finish that course?

M: Uh, yes. I finished that course two years ago. I was promoted to an office job, just last year.

W: Oh, great.

M: Good evening, Shirley Hunter. Welcome to our program! Can you introduce yourself to our listeners?

W: Sure. My name is Shirley Hunter. I was born in Nova Scotia, Canada. I've been living here in Montreal for about nine months. I moved from Tokyo. I was teaching English and also designing jewelry in Tokyo.

M: Wow! So, I visited your website today and your jewelry designs are amazing. So tell me, how did you get started?

W: Well, actually my mother was a jeweler when I was a child. So it was always something that I was a little bit interested in. I studied Art at university at first. But when I was in my second year, I tried designing the jewelry and I realized it was something I really liked. So I changed my major and focused on Jewelry Design.

M: So, where do you draw inspiration for your pieces?

W: I've lived in a lot of different places, so I get a lot of inspiration from people around me. I can also find inspiration from specific items, such as flowers, ice and sand.

M: A package can sometimes make someone buy a product. For example, a child might ask for a breakfast food that comes in a box with a picture. It might make the child more interested in the breakfast food. Some packages suggest that a buyer will get something for nothing. Food products sold in reusable containers are one example of this. People often prefer to buy the product in a reusable glass or dish, because they believe the container is provided without any cost. However, the cost of the container is added to the cost of the product. The size of a package also attracts a buyer. The large size suggests that it has the most products for the least money. But this is not always true. To find out, a buyer has to know the price of the basic unit. The most important thing for any buyer to remember is that a package is often an advertisement. The words and pictures do not tell the whole story. Only the product inside can do that.
