Unit 2B

Text 1

M: Hi, Mary, my old friend!

W: Hi, John! I'd like you to meet Mike. He is from Canada. He is in Beijing on business.

Text 2

W: How do you like my boss?

M: He certainly towers over us. I feel like a child next to him.

W: Yes, he's a big guy, but kind to others.

Text 3

M: Did you sign up for the school garden project?

W: Yes, I'll be helping with planting this Saturday.

M: Great! It's a good way to learn about teamwork and nature.

Text 4

M: Oh, today is March 8th. I'll take my driving test on March 10th. I have only two days to prepare.

W: Are you sure? My birthday is tomorrow, on March 6th. I'm inviting some friends.

M: Oh, yes! I made a mistake.

Text 5

W: Can you show me where to go? I'm pretty new here.

M: Certainly, ma'am! Start with a tour of the city and then walk around the Ocean Road. It's beautiful! Here's the city map with the number of my tour company at the bottom. If you need a guide, just call us!

Text 6

W: Do you exercise often?

M: Oh yes. I used to go biking, but I wasn't very into it after a while, so I decided to give swimming a try. I go about twice a week and it's much more enjoyable. I found this great pool near my office.

W: Oh, really? I've been thinking about going swimming. What's so great about this pool?

M: Well, first off, it's never busy, so you can really enjoy your swim. And there are friendly swimmers around, making it a cool place to make new friends.

Text 7

M: Wow, so many leaves. Where did you get them?

W: From the mountain. I traveled to Huangshan Mountain days ago, and brought many fallen leaves home.

M: Why did you bring so many of them back?

W: I wanted to paint with them. You know, everything but painting is not my cup of tea. I've done 89 so far. Look! Aren't they beautiful?

M: Oh yes, they are. And what do you paint with these leaves?

W: I like pictures of scenes and animals best, so I've done this one of the sun going down over a hill. The leaves form the colors of the sky. Now I'm bringing an image of a horse on the grass to life. I use different brown leaves for the horse and green leaves for the grass.

M: That sounds amazing. Your art is really creative and thoughtfully made!

Text 8

W: Hi! What did you do in the summer?

M: I had a job in a shop. I loved it because I helped customers find the perfect size for their feet.

W: Wow, tell me more about it.

M: I had to work long hours but I met some really nice people and I made a lot of money. I will use it to buy a car when I graduate from college next year.

W: That's great. You've begun to make preparations for the future. Hopefully we'll work together.

M: I hope so. Well, how did you spend your summer holiday?

W: I worked in a clothes shop but I didn't like it. I had to work from 8 am until 6 pm and it made me feel tired.

M: Why don't you find a job in a bookshop? It's easy and interesting. Or a video store?

W: I don't know about working in a bookshop. Maybe I can try next time.

Text 9

M: Mum, are we almost there yet?

W: Not quite, Tom. We have about another hour of driving before we reach Grandma's house.

M: I'm so hungry. Could I have some bread?

W: Don't you want to wait until you get to Grandma's house and share the bread with everyone? Remember, holidays are meant to be celebrated with family. Think about Aunt Grace's smoked fish, Grandma's apple pie and Uncle Joe's sandwich.

M: My mouth is watering. Will Dad make it to Grandma's house in time for dinner?

W: Of course. Dad shortened his business trip so he might even be at Grandma's already.

M: Great! I really wish we were already at Grandma's.

Text 10

M: Hello, everyone. It's now 7 o'clock in the morning, time for our radio's hourly weather report. If you're just about to leave your house, don't forget to take your umbrella with you. The shower is expected to start in the early morning, so prepare to protect yourself. However, the sky will clear this afternoon. And today's temperatures is between 4℃ and 12℃. It'll be a much cooler day tomorrow with a high of half of today's highest temperature, so you'll need a warm coat when you head out in the morning. Now for the traffic report. On Highway 55 going east, traffic is moving slowly, so if you're heading east, we recommend taking Highway 25. But remember that highway repair is about to begin tomorrow along Highway 26 from No.15 Street to the Berry Road exit. You may want to avoid that area for the next few weeks. Now, after a break we will be with Tony for the soccer matches. So please stay with us.
