M: Mary, I've got oil all over the tablecloth.
W: Oh, never mind about that.
M: It's all my error. Let me pay for it.
W: No, I won't hear of it.
Text 2
W: I think you should put some sun cream on your arms and face today. Otherwise, you might get burnt.
M: I already did. I'm going to take an umbrella as well.
W: Take a bottle of water to keep you cool.
Text 3
M: Don't you like the coat you just tried on?
W: Well, I like the color.
M: And it is really nice and reasonably priced.
W: Yes. I would have bought it right away if they had a smaller one.

W: Stuart, what time does Bob's birthday party finish tonight? Do you need me to pick you up?
M: I can take care of myself. I'm no longer a child.
Text 5
W: Hi, Peter, how are things getting along?
M: Pretty well.
W: How about going on a picnic on Saturday?
M: What a pity! I can't go. I've got a hiking date with Tom.
Text 6
M: Did you watch the program about the giraffe yesterday?
W: No. I went to a concert with my cousin.
M: I think you'd have enjoyed it. It's amazing how the cameramen film their behavior without frightening them. Sometimes the cameramen had to hide in a tree for hours to get the right scene!
W: That's quite tiring. I will watch it when it is replayed on TV.
Text 7
W: I had a terrible journey back from Thailand last Saturday.
M: Oh no, what happened?
W: Well, first the taxi broke down on Khao San Road. The driver is a native. He didn't speak English or Chinese. His cellphone was out of power.
M: That sounds awful. What did you do then?
W: I stood on the side of the road and tried for a lift many times. Finally, a passing car stopped and took me to the airport. Unluckily, I missed my flight. I had to wait three hours for the next one.
M: That was really terrible.
W: Worse still, when I got home, I realized I'd left my house key in my hotel in Bangkok. I didn't get into my house until two in the morning.
M: Oh my, you really suffered a lot.
Text 8
W: Come on, Jack! You eat so little. The hamburger here is delicious! Do you want to buy one?
M: No, thanks. I want to be healthy, so I've started eating good, fresh food.
W: When did you start thinking about eating more healthily?
M: Last month I had a check-up. My doctor told me that I should try to eat small, regular meals instead of one or two big meals a day. He also advised me to have a variety of foods but stay away with unhealthy foods.
W: I see. What types of food do you usually eat now?
M: I eat lots of fish, fruit and vegetables. I also try not to eat sugary and fatty foods.
W: Oh, dear! I have a sweet tooth.
M: Well, try to eat food that is good for you. You can go to the gym with me when you are free.
W: You're right. I should start thinking about a healthier lifestyle. But first, I'm going to finish my hamburger!

M: Well, I work part-time on Saturdays, 9 till 3, and Sundays, 11 till 5.
W: Okay, so what do you do exactly?
M: Basically, I advise customers about the best things to buy. I don't actually take the money. I just help people decide what to buy.
W: What's the most difficult thing about your job?
M: We sell more than 2,000 different products in the store. So it's very difficult to have all the information and to know everything about all the products.
W: What do you like about your job?
M: Well, I'm very interested in technology, computers and everything, and working in the shop, I get the chance to find out about all the latest things.

W: I read a story the other day and wanted to share it. Before cars were invented, the rich traveled in coaches. One day, a young lady went to watch a play in the theater. While she was watching the play, her coachman had to sit outside, looking after the horse. The lady was moved to tears by the performance. Some actors in the play were in extremely poor situations. She showed great pity on them. However, when she came out and saw the coachman covered with snow and almost frozen to death, she just considered it as a normal part of life. Nowadays, whenever I see people in terrible situations on TV, I feel sad, wishing that I could do something to help. But I sometimes pay no attention to people and things around me, like people who lose their jobs or suffer diseases. The right thing is to help those as you can. This is the story. Would anyone like to share something you read during the holidays with the class?
