Text 1

M: I'm sorry, but I won't be on time, Alice. I have to give a key to my mom.

W: Never mind. We will wait for you at the bus station.

Text 2

M: Excuse me, is this seat taken?

W: Sorry, my friend is sitting here. He' s just gone to get us some snacks and drinks before the show starts.

Text 3

W: So, tell me, sir, when did you notice the problem with your arm? I will examine it later.

M: I was having dinner at a restaurant with my wife last night. I suddenly felt a sharp pain.

Text 4

W: Good afternoon, sir. What can I do for you?

M: Some friends are coming for dinner this evening. I want to book three tables for four, please.

Text 5

W: You are always throwing your books everywhere! And your shoes are all over the floor.

M: OK. I'll pile books up on the desk and put away the shoes in the box.

W: Be quick, or we'll be late for the movie.

Text 6

M: Excuse me, how much do the Bluetooth earphones cost?

W: They are $200, but I can give you a 30% discount with some small free gifts.

M: That sounds great! By the way, if there is something wrong with the earphones, can I change them for a new pair?

W: Yes, but you must return them within a month.

M: Then is there a charge for that? I know other stores require a fee for that.

W: There will be no charge at all. And we provide repair service free of charge.

M: That's great. I'll take them.

Text 7

W: Excuse me, I ordered a custom-made cake last week for my band's anniversary. I'm here to pick it up.

M: You must be Mrs. Sanders, right? The cake with the guitar design. Let me check in the back. Oh, there seems to be a mix-up. We have a cake with a car design instead.

W: A car? That's not going to work at all. We're musicians, not race car drivers.

M: I'm terribly sorry. We can redesign the cake with the guitar. It will be ready in two hours and we'll deliver it to your party for free.

W: That would be great. Thank you for handling this so quickly. I guess every band has its car crash moment, right? At least we can fix it. Maybe this will be a funny story later.

M: For sure. I can already imagine the headline“Band Rocks Out With Surprise Car Cake”.

W: Exactly. Thanks for turning this around.

M: You bet! See you soon, Mrs. Sanders.

Text 8

M: How are things going, Sally? The last time we talked, you were struggling to adapt to college life.

W: I'm doing quite a lot better now, thanks, Mr. Parsons.

M: Really? That's great! I've noticed you've been actively participating in our class debates.

W: Actually, I guess I'm feeling more confident. It's just taken me a while to settle in.

M: Well, that's normal. This is your first time living away from home, right?

W: You're right. I've always been close to my parents. It's been really hard to get used to not seeing them, and only talking to them on the phone.

M: So, what else has changed?

W: I'm getting to know my roommates better. They've been so nice. When they found out I was missing my mom's dumplings, they took me shopping for the stuff to cook them, and then we ate dumplings together.

M: That's great!

W: Now it's like that we're a little family. And I feel much better about my future here.

Text 9

W: I can't make clear these recycling rules.

M: What's the problem?

W: Well, for instance, these envelopes are made of paper, but they have a plastic window. So, do they go with the plastic or the paper?

M: No, those can't be recycled. Just put them with the general waste.

W: I don't see why we can't put everything there.

M: Because if things are recycled, the materials can be used again, saving the Earth's energy and resources.

W: What about these plastic bottles and cans? Where do they go?

M: In the white bag. Look, it tells you on the information card. If you lose that, the information is on the Internet.

W: I suppose this big plastic plate can go in the bag too.

M: Yes, but wash it first. It can't go in if it's covered in food.

W: Oh, so many rules. Every Tuesday I have this problem, because it is collected the next day.

M: Once you get used to it, it will be no problem at all. Plus, you can feel good about yourself because you are helping the environment.

W: All right.

Text 10

M: Well, it's the end of the basketball season and I'd like to say a few words. Firstly, well done for your effort over the past three months. When the season began on October 1st, we were right at the bottom of the group, number 13 of 14 school teams in our area. But you trained hard, followed my game plans strictly, and most importantly, you worked together as a team. Teamwork was really the key to your success. All that effort really paid off, and we made our way up to the top of the group. We even got a place in the regional competition. Although we didn't win the game, you should have no regrets. This game isn't really about winning. It's about learning things that will take you forward in life, such as teamwork, problem-solving and learning how to face failure and never give up. I couldn't be prouder to be your coach.
