M: Not exactly, ma'am. I'd planned to spend only twenty pounds, but I ended up spending double that. I bought a dinosaur model.

M: It's Mom and Dad's wedding anniversary next month. Shall we hold a party for them? 

W: I don't think that's a good idea. Dad hates parties. And anyway, I won't have time next month. I need to study for my exams.

M: Then, let's take them out to have dinner at a restaurant. 

W: Great! And we can buy some gifts for them.How about going shopping this Sunday?

M: OK.

M: What a beautiful dress, Ashley! It looks very good on your daughter.

W: Thanks, Hardy. I got it for her in VivoCity last weekend. Have you ever been there?

M: Yeah. As one of Singapore's largest shopping malls, it has over 300 stores. Exploring VivoCity is an adventure in itself. The mall has a wide range of facilities and services. You can even enjoy the views of the sea and the city skyline. What did you do there besides shopping? 

W: We planned to see the latest movie but my daughter was not interested. So we enjoyed a live performance. 

M: Did you have a wonderful time there?

W: Yes. Do you like shopping there?

M: Of course. The mall is home to a variety of toy stores. I'm just thinking about taking my kids there this Saturday morning. Would you like to join us with your daughter? 

W: I'd love to, but I have an appointment with the dentist then. So do you mind going there the next morning? 

M: Of course not.

M: Oh, Anne, that was a wonderful dinner. That's the best meal I've ever had. 

W: Thank you.

M: Can I give you a hand with the dishes? 

W: I'll do them myself later. Would you like some coffee? 

M: Thanks a lot.I'd love some.Oh, Anne, I didn't realize you were such a good cook.

W: It's because I've been taking these courses. Actually, I've just learned how. 

M: I can't cook at all and I can't even boil an egg.

W: You're kidding.Well, if you want, you could take several classes at college and learn how to do it, too.

M: Forget it. I was not born for that. Oh, I just remembered. I wonder if I could possibly use your phone.

W: I'm sorry, but there's something wrong with my phone.It doesn't work.Is it really important?

M: Well, you see, I have to call my secretary about tomorrow's work plan. So I'm afraid I have to go now. Thank you for your dinner. 

W: You're welcome. Good night then.

W: Hi, you must be Leo Cook.

M: Hi, you must be Stella. I'm sorry for being late.

W: It doesn't matter. I have got the key and let's go in. 

M: Hmm. The green sofa in the living room is so great. The color is my favorite. It's a good match for the wallpaper. 

W: Yes, the apartment is in good condition. This way, this is the kitchen. It's next to the bathroom. 

M: The kitchen is particularly good. It has everything, even an oven and a microwave. 

W: Yes. It's not big enough to have a meal here but we do have a dining table in the living room. Come and see the big bedroom. It faces south and has a big closet.

M: Yeah, it's really bright in here, but where can I do the washing?

W: Here on the balcony. And you can hang your clothes here.

M: The house is nice, but I have to ask my wife first. I understand it's 1,000 dollars a month. 

W: Yes, I have to mention that the transport here is also convenient. The subway station is 500 meters away and there is a bus stop nearby.

M: Okay, I will be in touch.

M: Good morning everyone, and welcome to your first day at Fudan University. I'm sure everything looks very new to you, and maybe even slightly worrying. But fear not. I am here to put your minds at rest and help you settle in. My name is Tom and I am the new student manager. Let me begin by saying how happy we are to have you here as part of our student body. It's an achievement for you to have reached this level of education, and you should all feel proud of yourselves. Since you've already had introduction brochures in your hands, we will start by going over some of the rules of the college. We will have a short break at noon and then in the afternoon, you will meet some of your lecturers and professors. Oh, and there is a slight change to your printed program. Your tour of the college buildings will now be at the end of the afternoon instead of the beginning. So, before we start, do you have any questions?
