Text 1
W: Can you imagine it is possible for us to travel to the Moon and Mars in the future?
M: Of course. With the development of space exploration technology, the wish of mankind is likely to come true.
Text 2
M: Have you seen the film The Million Pound Note?
W: Yes. The story is very interesting. The man has got everything he wants with a large note. No one can change.
M: There is nothing strange about it. People in that society valued money.
Text 3
M: How long can I keep this book, Rosa? I need to read it for my English paper.
W: You can keep it for one month till the end of this term. The teacher is coming. Let's go back to our seats.
Text 4
M: Helen, do you mind if I borrow your notes on the history lecture last week?
W: Didn't you attend it?
M: Well, I was busy taking care of my brother in the hospital at that time.
Text 5
M: Mary, I need the suit by Friday. It has a small mark on it. Please help me.
W: Okay. I'll take it to the dry cleaner's now.
M: Thanks, honey.
Text 6
W: I don't like these TV programmes. What shall we do this afternoon?
M: Let's go to the lake for a swim.
W: Swim in the lake in this weather? Are you kidding?
M: Don't worry about the weather. It'll be sunny today. I've checked the forecast.
W: Weather forecasters are not always right. Look out of the window. Can you see the trees? Can you see how windy it is? Just forget the forecast. There is going to be a storm.
Text 7
W: Dad, will I fly to visit Aunt Diane's family next Tuesday or next Friday?
M: Well, I think next Wednesday is okay.
W: Should I pack my bags now?
M: Yes, I think so.
W: Okay. What clothes should I take? I know it's hot there.
M: Yes, but it rains a lot. You can buy an umbrella or a jacket after arriving there. Just pack some dresses.
W: OK. And who is meeting me at the airport?
M: Well, Aunt Diane and Uncle Matt will be at work, but your cousin David will be free.
Text 8
W: Hi, Simon. I hope you like our school.
M: Yes, I do. Los Angeles is great. I've made lots of friends and I really enjoy my courses.
W: Me too. By the way, you didn't tell me what you are studying here?
M: Didn't I? I'm doing business trade.
W: Is it difficult? Are you working in an office after graduation?
M: No. I was born in Canada. My parents are in Toronto and I hope to find a job in a company there.
W: What about your friend Lily?
M: She is from Sydney, Australia. Her father runs a hotel there, and she is studying hotel management, though she doesn't like it.
W: Wow, both of you have your plans.
Text 9
W: Have you traveled much?
M: Oh, yes. I have traveled quite a lot.
W: You travel for holidays or for business, or what?
M: In most cases it is for holidays, but sometimes for adventures.
W: What countries have you visited then?
M: I have visited Australia most often because I want to see my best friend there. We often stay together for several days. And I've visited France, Italy, Brazil and, of course, China.
W: You have been to China. That's great. Tell me about it.
M: I traveled around and visited lots of places. I stayed in Beijing for a week and then I went to Shanghai. Have you ever been to China?
W: I have to say I haven't, but I've read and heard a lot about China. Actually, I planned to go there last year but I couldn't go because I was ill.
M: Oh, what a pity. It's a great country.
W: Yes. I'm interested in China, too. I think I'll have a chance to go there for a cultural exchange next year.
