Teacher: Paul, you look worried. What’s wrong?
Paul: Hi, Ms Thomson, I am just feeling sorry for myself! (laughs nervously)
Teacher: I’m sorry to hear that. Is there anything I can do?
Paul: Not really. I agreed to ride a roller coaster with my friends this weekend, but I’m scared of heights!
Teacher: Then why did you agree to go?
Paul: Because my friends were so excited. I didn’t want to make them unhappy.
Teacher: I understand your problem. I think you should tell your friends that you’re afraid of heights. They’ll understand you. You can’t always hide your feelings to please others.
Paul: But what if they never invite me again? I really enjoy spending time with them.
Teacher: I’m sure you can still do other things together. Just say “no” and explain why. True friends will respect your feelings.
Paul: So... I guess I need to tell them the truth.
Teacher: Yes. That’s the best thing to do!
