Today, let’s begin with note taking skills. Note taking is an important skill, not only for taking classes, but also for doing your job in the future. So I feel it necessary to draw your attention to certain points about taking notes.

First, don’t try to write down every single word the teacher says. Do not care about what is not important. And you should focus on writing word groups, not complete sentences. Second, leave spaces between main ideas. You may want to add some reflections later, or you can write down the missing information after class. Also, I find that some of you are very good at making use of colored mind maps and symbols such as circles, underlines and boxes. They do help a lot because the use of them makes a note easier to read and more interesting than a text-only note.

Dear listeners, however, please remember that don’t spend most of your time writing when you take notes. Try to pay more attention to the speaker’s words. That’s more important. Thanks.
