Presenter: Welcome to News Today. Christmas is coming. It brings joy, but also waste and pollution. Each year, for example, people in the UK use about 365,000 kilometres of paper for gifts. Around the world, people throw away millions of turkeys. What’s more, people cut down nearly 120 million trees to use as Christmas trees. But after Christmas, they often throw the trees away. Some families are buying plastic Christmas trees, but they can cause pollution, too. We should think about new ways of celebrating. Let’s have a “green Christmas” this year.
