W: Yes, thanks for coming at such short notice.

W: How about seeing the new film at the theater tomorrow?
M: Sorry. I have a GRE class every Friday, and the next day I always have to look over my notes at home.

W: John, have you ever heard of a shop called Big Bargains?
M: I heard someone talking about that the other day, but I'm not sure how to find it.
W: It has opened on City Road. There are some really cheap products.

W: Oh, sorry. I must have the wrong room.
M: Which room do you want?
W: The Committee Room. I thought it was here on the third floor.
M: It's on the fourth floor and, anyway, you are lost. This is the second floor.

M: Have I caught the wrong train? It has just gone past my station.
W: Didn't you hear the news, sir? There has been an accident at that station, so it is now out of service. There will be a bus at the next station to take you back.

M: Have you seen the library's events calendar? They have some book club events, plus they are running a science fiction writing workshop next month.
W: No, I haven't seen it, but that workshop sounds like something I would like to visit.
M: I know. You've already started writing a few short stories, right?
W: Yes, but I would like to write more and longer stories. I'm setting on making writing fiction my career. Who is leading the workshop?
M: An author whose first novel won a highly regarded prize last year.
W: I will sign up then. Thanks for letting me know!

W: Rick, there will be a rock concert at Riverside Theater tonight. Do you want to go?
M: It sounds interesting. When will it begin?
W: Let me see...It will begin at 7:30 this evening.
M: But this morning in our room, you told our daughter that we would take her out for dinner tonight.
W: We can eat first and then go to the concert.
M: That sounds perfect. How much are the tickets?
W: $20 per ticket for adults and half that price for children under 10 years old.
M: Luckily, our daughter is nine. We'd better hurry, or we don't have time to enjoy our meal.

M: Hello, Coffee Cup Galore customer services. Julio Sanchez speaking. How can I help?
W: I ordered a new, yellow coffee cup and it arrived today. But it's not yellow! It's purple. And they told me to call this number.
M: Oh, OK. Do you have the order number there, Madam?
W: Yes. It's 20250803A001.
M: One moment, please. Ah, yes. I see the problem. Order number 20250803A001 was for the purple coffee cup with the product number TP12FS. The yellow one you wanted is TP12SF.
W: Oh, I see. I must have made an error when I was ordering. I'm afraid I want to get my money back!
M: We can send you a yellow cup and the delivery person will pick up the purple one.
W: So I don't have to send it back myself?
M: No, not at all. The delivery man will contact you on Monday morning.
W: Oh. That's very good. Thank you.

W: Where are you from, Corey?
M: I'm from Canada. I've just moved here.
W: Canada! Are you good at winter sports then?
M: Yeah, I love winter sports very much, such as skiing and snowboarding. I also like ice diving.
W: Wow! That sounds quite exciting!
M: Yeah. I've been doing that for 7 years, since I was 9.What do you do in your free time?
W: Well, swimming used to be my favorite hobby. But now I spend most of my spare time in the acting club I joined last year and I really love the theater. I really want to be an actress one day. Have you got any other hobbies?
M: Um, I guess I enjoy playing online computer games. I feel quite relaxed when playing the games and it helps me make new friends. How about you? Do you spend much time online?
W: Well, I'm not interested in computer games. I think it makes no sense to spend time playing something with strangers. I prefer chatting face to face with my friends.
M: I like chatting with friends too.
W: Oh, it's time for class. Our English teacher is coming. After class I'll introduce you to some of my friends.

W: Good evening, this is Jane Lemming with your First Minute of the Hour News report. We've only got 60 seconds, so listen up! Green Hills Foods Company is removing 1.5 million pounds of meat from the store shelves. About 20 people have gotten sick from eating the meat so far. If you've bought any chicken or beef from this company in the past month, throw it out immediately. Next on our list is a brief traffic report. All roads in the Santa Rosa area are clear, except for State Street, because of a book fair this weekend. Speaking of the book fair, it starts tomorrow — that's Friday — at 5:00 pm, and continues through Sunday at 8:00 pm. For those of you from out of town, turn left on Main Street and go until you hit State Street. Take another left and continue for a mile. The fair grounds are on the right. That's all the news we have for the next 59 minutes!
