Text 1
M: I never listen to the radio anyway. I can just check the weather on my phone.
W: I do the same thing. I never watch the weather forecast on television, either.
Text 2
M: Ann, could you tell me why you failed to pass the exam?
W: Sorry, Mr. Smith. I spent too much time on voluntary work last month.
Text 3
W: Shall we go to Munich for the holiday, darling?
M: Sounds great. But what about our children, Spark and Fiona?
W: Why not take them?
Text 4
M: Who's been using my toothbrush?
W: Not me, Dad. I use the blue one every morning, and Mom uses the green one.
M: I knew it! Cassandra! Yours is red, not blue!
Text 5
W: Oh, man, I feel awful. I think I'm coming down with the cold everybody's been laid up with.Do you have it too?
M: No, I mean I probably look terrible because I stayed up all last night studying, but I should be fine after some sleep.
Text 6
W: Oh no! I'm so sorry, Bill.
M: What's the matter?
W: I've just deleted something by mistake.
M: But why are you using my computer?
W: Well, mine is broken and I haven't taken it to the repair shop. You know I just wanted to send a quick e-mail, so I used yours, and I'm really sorry!
M: What did you delete?
W: I don't know, just a file that was opened. I thought it was mine. Sorry, Bill!
M: Oh, never mind. It wasn't important. Don't worry about it.
Text 7
W: Peanuts! Get your peanuts here!
M: Hey, I'll take two bags!
W: All right, look alive!
M: Whoa! Whoa!
W: Ha-ha, nice catch! You must have played some baseball yourself, huh?
M: Only when I was little. I used to coach my son's team, too. But now I love coming here to watch others play. It doesn't get any better than this! How much do I owe you?
W: Four dollars each, sir.
M: Here's a ten. Keep the change!
W: Hey, thanks a lot! Have a wonderful day!

M: Good morning, madam. What can I do for you?
W: Hi. I just bought this camera a few days ago, but when I took it out of the packing, I noticed that there was something wrong with the flash. When I try to take a photo, the flash doesn't go off.
M: I'm sorry you had a problem with our product. Do you still have the receipt?
W: My receipt is right here along with the original box.
M: We don't have that product at the moment, but we can exchange it for a camera of the same price. I can also ask the technician to fix it, or I can give your money back.
W: I think I'd like to get a new camera today instead of asking my money back.
M: It looks like everything is in order. Why don't you take a look around and see if there's another model you like?

W: By the way, how did the meeting go?
M: It was quite interesting.
W: So what did you talk about?
M: Uh, recycling, mostly. We have this plan that everyone should write to the council to ask them to collect more rubbish. According to the plan, I'm going to do it this evening.
W: Oh, I see. I think I might go to the next meeting. I've been meaning to do something...Um, I mean, I want to get more active in the environment.
M: Yes, we all need to focus on global warming, ice caps melting and pollution.
W: Yes, we're facing so many environmental problems. It's really frightening.
M: Well, there's something we could do right now. There are posters we want to put up all over the college. Do you want to help me?
W: Sure. It might be an idea to ask Kate to come, too. I think she would be glad to do this.
M: Yes, let's call her. Why don't we print them out right now?
W: Sure. Let's do it. Meanwhile, we can wait for Kate's arrival.

M: Hello, everyone. I'm from a group called Nature. We run courses for young people like you to do during weekends. Now I'd like to tell you about the courses you can do on Saturday mornings. You can learn a lot about things like science and maths at school. These courses are really about giving you students the chance to come and find wildlife. It's an area that tends to get forgotten. We usually take students to a wild place that's near their home. Sometimes we go to a beach or a lake, but we've planned to go to a forest this time. That's the closest place for you, and the easiest to get to.
We'll also show you how to make things out of different materials. On the last course, everyone designed backpacks which they were very pleased with. This time we'd get you to design and make a birdhouse. When it is finished, you can take it home. You spend three hours each week with us and the courses last for 12 weeks. That might sound a long time, but we think you'll not be sorry when it's over.
