W: We can't leave Rex with my mom or dad. So, instead, we can leave him at a hotel for dogs.  

M: That won't be necessary. My friend John will come by the house every day to feed him and water our plants.

M: Sorry I'm late. It's so wet outside that I could hardly see through it, so I drove very slowly.  

W: It's OK. No one expected such a heavy shower today. After all, the weather report said it would be fine today.

M: Hi Sarah. Could you please tell me your secret of getting high scores in exams? I don't want to let my mom down anymore. 

W: Well, there is no shortcut. Do what Mr. Ryan asks us to do and practice more after class.

W: You were running slowly today, Matt. Did you eat a big breakfast before practice again?

M: No. My friends came over yesterday, and we stayed up talking. I hope I won't fall asleep in class later on!

M: Did you remember to bring the drinks for the team picnic this afternoon?  

W: Yes, I got orange juice, water, and a few bottles of tea. What about the food?  

M: I picked up sandwiches, fruit, and some snacks. I think we're all set now.

W: Michael, how long have you been living here?

M: Well, I came here in August 2022. So in two months, it will have been exactly three years.  

W: Time flies! Have you adapted to the local food culture?

M: Yes, I enjoy most dishes now.

W: What about the public transport, like the subway system? What's your take on that? 

M: Honestly, it was hard to figure out at first. But now, I've got the hang of it and use it every day with ease.

W: David, have you finished your article for the upcoming issue of the magazine?  

M: Not yet. I have been feeling unwell lately and had to see a doctor, so I missed a few interviews.  

W: Sorry to hear that. But we are on a tight schedule, you know. As editor-in-chief, I have to make sure everything is on track by Friday.  

M: I understand, Judy. I will send you a draft tonight.

W: That would be great. Take care and get well soon. Contact me if you need a hand with arranging interviews next time.

W: Wow, it has been a wonderful day. The National Art Museum of China was so inspiring!

M: Yeah! The historical pieces were mind-blowing. I'm so glad our Chinese teacher recommended us to visit. We have seen a lot of great places while touring around Beijing. But this was one of my favorites. 

W: True. The artwork show was amazing. But what struck me most was how huge the museum's collection is. 

M: I loved the mix of traditional and modern design in architecture. It is such a perfect reflection of China's deep history and modern invention.

W: It's too early to take the subway home, and the weather is perfect. How about biking through the park instead?

M: I would rather walk home. 

W: Great idea! Let's do that.

M: Jenny, I'm a bit worried about you. The whole team has noticed you haven't come to basketball practice recently.

W: I just have so much schoolwork and so many responsibilities on my plate these days. 

M: You must be worried about trying to get everything done. If there's anything I can do for you, I will.

W: I appreciate that. Doing well in school has always come first for me, so it's tough to take on the role of the team captain. 

M: If you want, I can tell your friends and our teammates that you need support.

W: That would be so great. If anyone can help me in studying, that would make a big difference as well.

M: We're in different grades, so I can't offer much help with your schoolwork. But I can step in and take some of the captain's duties off your plate. I'll make a plan to organize some of the practice activities and matches. 

W: Thank you for doing that for me. When I catch up with everything, I promise to help you practice your defensive skills.
